Question Step Notch or C Notch?

I'm trying to figure out if I just need a C notch or if I should just go with a Step Notch. I want to be able to lay the frame out but I'm not really sure if I need to go with the step notch. Does anyone have any picture of their truck laid out and what you used: c notch or step notch? Oh, I have a 54 F100 and I'm using TCI MII and 4 link with baggs all the way around.

Thanks.

Here is a pic of my rear suspension with the notched frame. I am not running bags but I did flip the rearend and took a few leafs out of the springs to get the ride height I wanted. One of my main concerns was keeping the bed stock...any bigger notch than the one I have would mean that either the frame rail or the rearend housing would hit/protrude through the bed floor.

Thats my concern also. I don't really want to have to raise the bed an obvious amount. I don't mind doing it a few inches if I have too but I do want to get the truck down pretty low. I'm thinking that I will have to go with a small step notch. I'll see who else chimes in with pics & sugestions.

laying frame will take some serious work. the fenders and running boards are below the frame a serious amount (4-6inches)..

I have a 2inch notch in the rear, and with 20 tires can get the running boards to 6 inches off the ground. I had to raise the bed 1in to do that.

so to lay running board I'd have to drop another 6 inches, definitely step notch and raising the bed at LEAST 8 inches. But when I am lowered now, the 20's are about 1.5 inches from the fender inside. so you'd probably have to raise the whole bed to move everything that far.. then the cab to line up, and then the front sheet metal too.. (serious work as I mentioned)

do you have a bump stop on the rear axle? what size wheel/tire combo did you have when you did this measurement?

my notch is as big as yours(1/2 chassis) .
https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...=47184&width=0

I am running 20in wheels, 315x20x35 rears.
when I measured with the 195-70-14 tires I had 3.0 inches clearance at the board bottom, the bracket is 1 in higher. .. now at 6in. axle on the bump stop. (3/4 bump stop thinnest I could find)

measured with 15 inch low pro tires, my bump stops are verry thin 1/4 inch basically non exixtent! my truck is also raked front is lower than the back, the running boards would be in an angle front one inch back is roughly 2 inches

also, looked in your gallery, nice.. are those the bebops widened rear fenders? I am using the same..

I just discovered a rear running board bracket alignment problem once the boards are seated in the fender notch.. check it out on yours

In working with Corvette IRSs I have learned that the bumpstop does not need to be between the frame and the rearend housing. The C4 IRS for instance has a bracket welded to the outside of the frame to which the bumpstop mounts. This setup allows a realistic sized bumpstop to be used without limiting the travel of the rearend. No pics right now but I could dig some out if my description isn't clear.

I should clarify..when I say laying frame I meant to have the running boards within about 1 inch from the ground (give or take). Also, I'm going for very little rake.

I think you will have to step notch to get 2in bracket clearance in the rear, (the board hangs down another inch).

in my gallery is a pic of my 3in clearance at the board with 14in rims..

now that I have the 20s installed I am up at 6in clearance.

the discount tire site gives some good size comparison info

Sam, I'm looking to get around where you are with the running boards. I will probably have 18" to 20" rims on mine eventually.
