He was able to come home from the hospital on Friday.
He is still retaining a lot of water but is finally eating and they are getting the blood infection under control. He had his port removed as they feel that was the source of the infection...the bad news is that for his chemo treatments he'll now need to have an IV installed each time...which is complicated with Dan due to some other issues he has with his veins...he's a real trooper though.
Dan also has a blood clot at the site of the port that he'll need to inject himself once a day with blood thinners to help clear.
He has an appointment tomorrow with the oncologist to see what the plan is to move forward with fighting these tumors in his abdomen...I'll let you know as I know more.
Thanks again folks for your prayers and support and being part of Dan's prayer warriors...thru prayer ANYTHING and EVERYTHING is POSSIBLE!
Have a great Sunday everyone...keeping the faith...
Have dealt directly with cancer with several family members, none of which won there battle or even made the trek that I just read through during their battle. Glad to hear that Dan was able to come this far and thoughts be with him and his loved ones from both las vegas nv and northern california.
Here's an update for all of those praying for Dan...
Dan received 2 units of blood on Tuesday and started feeling somewhat better on Wednesday - more energy, etc. His battle is not being able to eat anything with substance lately. Without going into a lot of detail, most of it gives him nausea and he sometimes throws up - very painful.
The PET scans from Wednesday show disease progression in the lymph nodes, liver, abdominal cavity, duodenum and there is also still fluid in his chest cavity and abdomen that has some cancer activity. The main message/results are the cancer is no longer stable. Dan hasn't had chemo since July 11th. So, he went ahead and started that yesterday and then they'll try again next Thursday. In about 6 weeks or so, they'll rescan and see if it's responding. If yes, they continue, if not, they go on to Plan B - another chemotherapy regimine.
It looks like Dan's body is under another assault by this cancer. He has been fighting this cancer for nearly 3 years now. He is a real fighter for sure!
Figured I'd pass along the latest information to those of you praying.
