!997 F-350 Auto - was having problems with transmission not shifting into 1st. Would do so when starting truck, and shifting from park, and will shift to first when I put it in first gear. Sometime will shift down if at a red light. Won't shift into O/D. O/D light flashing sometimes, sometime not. If it sits over night O/D light does not shift for 20-50 miles.
Blew front pump seal, dropped tranny, replaced seal could find no other problems, filled with fluid, went back to the same problems. Mechanically it feels fine, shifts 2-3 as expected. Took it to have error codes run, computer had no codes even with light flashing. Speed sensor replaced 300 miles ago- Any suggestions? It acts as if it is an electrical problem. Thanks in advance
You should get the pressure checked for each gear. You may have a electrical issue or you may need a valve kit. Not sure. Good thing on not having any metal. Mine was acting simular to yours without the flashing. My TC croaked on mine.

Reason: typo
Valves etc were checked about 6000 miles ago, looked like new, nothing inside that seems to be causing the problem. No pressure problems we have been able to find
I unhooked the batteries for an hour hoping to reset from the "Safe-mode". Is is possible/probable that the whole problem is that the transmission is still running in "Safe-mode" and had to be cleared? I had it checked before with a hand scanner and I do not know if it could pick up transmission codes. If this may be the problem and suggestions on how to clear the computer and get it off "Safe-mode"?
Don't bother trying to clear the computer. That's not your problem. You need someone with the right scan tool to read your codes. Without the codes nobody knows what's wrong.
