I started noticing a slight tick in my engine a few weeks ago and didnt think much of it. Figured it was just a lil cold out and so on. Well the tick slowly grew so I decided it could not be ignored any more. I know that the tick was in the upper power train on the driver side engine bank. I stethoscoped the heads and figured it was coming from one of the front 2 cylinders of the driver side engine bank. I pulled the valve cover and all of the rockers and push rods. The rockers all appear to be in good shape with no cracks or obvious bending. The push rods however, dont seem to be too bad but I am not an expert on them. So my question is how much bend is too much for a pushrod? I rolled them all on a flat surface and they all had some bend and a few more than others. I just dont know if its enough to cause this ticking. Any help advice or tips would be greatly appreciated
If you look at the pushrods you'll see that the ends are bigger than the tube. If the bend is enough that the tube touches the surface and lifts the end up I'd replace it.
Take a look at the studs that hold the exhaust manifold to the head. If one is broken it will leak just enough to "tick"
I was thinking if the rockers and rods looked alright then it could be an injector being pissy but I hoped not. Injectors tend to be a bit pricier than push rods. I will take another close look at the rods before I condem an injector. Thank you for the help.
P.S. is there even a way to check injectors without a computer?
Edit: The rockers bend doesnt make the tips lift off the surface but there is noticeable bend almost to the point of contact down the rod. Also if I replace the push rods will I HAVE to replace the rockers as well? Dont know if they are considered mated parts or not
