All you can tell when the light is flashing is that something is wrong. It could be a loose wire, it could be a bad sensor, or it could be a dead transmission. You can't tell without reading the codes and doing the diagnostics.
ok so call me stupid but i have to get a scan tool and plug it into the OBD 2 connector correct? it shouldnt be a dead tranny because i drove it
(no on the st, just around the auction area) and it shifted smooth. i didnt get through all the gears so i know that doenst mean anything. i'd really like to get this truck but i dont want to break the bank to get it right. lol dont crucify me, but i'm usually a chevy man and i know what the known troubles are for them but not with fords. thanks for all yalls help
I'm lookin at an F550 at an auction and the OD light is flashing too. I don't know if the cruise works or not because I didn't look at it that hard. I really like the truck but if the tranny needs to be rebuilt I dont want it. But from what I see here it may just be the computer. Is this the case?
Check out if the speedo is working properly... If not, it might be the VSS sensor is bad on top of the rearend... $11 at napa... p/n 530780
I have had this exact same problem. I got to my whits end and gave in and sent it to the stealership. They called me 2 days later and said they have ran all the wire diagnostics, bla bla bla. Basically, their is a voltage that is not coming out of the PCM. So, they want $900 to replace. So, first off, i've looked everywhere, i'm assuming the PCM that all the TSB's talk about is the ECM that you all are referring to. If so I need to figure out what kind i need to buy. I have a 2000 Excursion, 7.3l. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My truck had the p1747 code and was also blowing fuses (15 amp or 30 amp) under hood. Found out it was a short in the circiut(electrical) harness because it overheated and burnt some of the wires at soe point. After they were fixed it-it works great.
On a similar note, One shop told me the transmisson needed to be overhauled and the torque converted was locked. With the same codes and problems I had. It seems this code is very confusing. HH
Well, i replaced my PCM and it did not fix the problem. Still have a P0670 and the occasional slipping transmission and flashing O/D light. So, now i've replaced the GPCM, the PCM, and had the wiring checked. This is confusing the #@#t out of me. What does the other box in the driver side fender do? Could this be causing my problems? My truck is a 2000 X 7.3L so I've got all the California stuff. It does have a relay next to the fuel bowl but I don't know if that is a glow plug relay or what, and if that would cause the problem. What do you guys think?
