Overdrive light flashing on 2000 F450 7.3
Overdrive light started flashing this week on my 2000 F450 7.3 mason dump. It only does it when it shifts into 4th gear once it hits that gear at about 35mph the overdrive light flashes until you restart the truck and it resets. Does the same thing all the time but DOESN'T flash if i'm driving around town on back roads and never get to that gear. Could this be something minor besides the transmission starting to go? It drives and shifts fine even when the light is flashing.
Any ideas while i wait to get the error code read?

Standard auto parts stores cannot read transmission codes let alone communicate with a 7.3. Take it to a transmission shop or a Ford dealer to have the codes pulled.

i also noticed if right when i start up the truck if i hit the o/d button to turn o/d off the code doesn't get thrown (o/d light never starts flashing) and it drives fine with no o/d. hopefully its just the wire harness otherwise maybe a bad solenoid where i'd have to replace the whole solenoid block ($200)?

That code means the torque converter clutch didn't lock when it should have locked.
The first thing to do is clear the code and see if it comes back. I have seen this code set in error. It doesn't happen often, but it can happen.
If it does come back there are three possibilities. First, the torque converter itself is bad. Second, the seals on the input shaft are worn out causing internal leakage. This prevents the clutch from getting enough pressure to lock. And third, the torque converter clutch control valve in the pump body is stuck.
If it were a wiring problem or a bad torque converter clutch solenoid it would set different codes.
