I have a 2003 Ford 250 7.3. It drives great as long as i dont go over about half throttle. As soon as i go over half throttle the overdrive OFF light starts flashing and the truck goes into "limp mode". If i pull over and shut the truck off and restart it the light goes off and it will drive fine unless i go over half throttle again. If anyone has any info to help please share.
Were towing any load? If so, your auto trans might be the problem.. And yes, try to get the codes read with a scanner that is compatible to our engine.
It could maybe to the VSS sensor on top of the rearend.. Napa sells P/N 530780 for $10.49 that fixed my flashing OD light.. but my speedo was also acting up at the time...
i had a similar problem, problem was cured by one of the many things i did to my truck.. not sure what i did to fix it...possibly cleaning or changing ICP sensor or fixing bad wires in engine vally. did so many things to it all in one day i really do not know what it was for sure that i did.. sure some one else may have an idea.
may very well be your oil?
i know mine would, just like a light switch, go into "limp" mode and was just a dog after that.. sucked. truck wouldnt go past 45 MPH when it happened. hope u get it fixed! heres a bump for ya!
Well i had the codes read today and it through a p1747 code as soon as i showerd down on it and made it go in limp mode.
I also have a problem with my glow plugs. I thought i had a bad gpr and i tried to save some money and just put a solenoid off an early model ford in its place but nothing happened. Not sure if i messed anything up buy connecting the wires the way that i did. Come to find out, the solenoid worked a little different. One of the two small terminals was a ground so i could have messed something up. I then just switched the gpr with IAH solenoid hoping it would work. For some reason when you read the voltage on the small wires on the gpr now both of them show 12 volts and doesnt pull the solenoid in to send power to the glow plugs.
Not sure if it has anything to do with the same problem or not.
P1747 EPC solenoid short circuit Short circuit, faulty solenoid, PCM shorted to ground...
yes, it might be related... I am sure one will help ...stay tuned..
You have either a bad Electronic Pressure Control (EPC) solenoid, or a short in the wiring between the EPC and the PCM. The EPC is inside the pan of trans.
What order should i test the components in the last Post, Mark? Also how can i test the EPC without dropping the pan.
Remove the bulkhead connector from the transmission. Check the resistance from EPC pin to the power pin on the transmission side of the connector. Also check the EPC pin for connection to ground. Also check the continuity of the wiring from the PCM to the bulkhead connector on the EPC circuit, and check the wire for a connection to ground.
You will need the correct resistance value for the EPC and a wiring diagram. I have neither.
Ok thanks Mark. I will try that out in the morning.
Well i took it to Dothan, AL today 160 mile round trip ran fine all the way up there and back. I just took it easy and didnt give it too much throttle. But tonight i took it around the block for a test run after it cooled off because it thought this problem occured less when the transmission was cold. I was wrong, it immediatly went to limp mode at half throttle, i drove for about a mile in limp mode then put it in nuetral shut the engine off and restarted it. Ran great then took it easy and drove up to 50 miles and hour no problems then i got im my neighborhood where speed limit it 35 with a couple of stop signs and the second stop sign i got to the doors out of no where just decided to lock. They used to lock as soon as you started rolling after you cranked it, but it varies now. Not sure if that may mean something dealing with the problem. Or it could be i just confused the computer when i restarted it while still rolling down the road.
Well i have the 4r100 transmission and i cant buy just an EPC solenoid. I have to buy the solenoid pack which i bought today. I am going to install it in the morning i will let yall know how it works out.
