Pssssstttt.....

Please don't mention ANYTHING about the F150 powertrain.

Ironically the landscape looks exactly the same as we have now with our 1/2 tons. Ford may build the best "package" but are behind in the powertrain department.

But hey, who buys a Mustang to race?

like all of this means chit anyways, with new fuel regs to follow in 5 years, and potentially less when the EPA gets to have there say in it, we wont be talking these types of numbers anymore.

as for fonefiddy wtf do you expect when you post how much of a chubby you have for chebby on a ford website? the camaro died before, and it will again. and that comes from a Ls1 fan who used to get to drive a 30th aniversary camaro ss all the time

Idunno about the Camaro dieing. It is a bad time to be bringing out a nice sporty car. But the V6 can get 28 MPG, so it might be safe.

I'm seriously tempted to buy a Grand Prix GXP. This might a once in a lifetime chance. I can't see it being offered ever again. Holden has been building great cars for years. GM finally brings one here, and the bottom falls out of the economy.

415HP 6 spd Sports Sedans like that, just don't happen in America.

All matter of opinion. I don't mind the 90 - 97 Camaros. Even though from 82 to 92 they were virtually the same. I believe 98 was the first year for the ugly front ends. But the LS1 came about in 98 so it ain't all that bad....

I don't recall anyone on this thread saying anything about GM's push rod engines so don't bring it up. If someone has, please show me.

Keyword in what you said "but Ford could have done a lot better." I don't know what you don't understand when I say Ford is not going to throw a huge amount of $$$ in what is essentially a niche model in their lineup; it will not be cheap for Ford to put an IRS in the Mustang, that's why they don't bother. Is that clear?

The majority of their time and money is probably being put towards meeting CAFE regs.

So did GM, the interior of the Camaro is a huge disappointment. The Mustang easily has the better interior at least in terms of quality i.e. more soft touch plastics and overall feel of the plastic.

Don't bet on it.

The Zeta RWD platform it's based on is supposedly good through 2015 at which point anything can happen. The Pontiac G8 will not be returning for another generation after the product cycle for the current one is up so that doesn't sound promising for a next gen Camaro.

I've heard rumors that a next gen Camaro would be based off of a smaller RWD platform that I believe is in development for a Cadillac sedan positioned below the CTS (think BMW 3 series competitor).

Do you mean the G8 GXP? If you do, I agree with you, it's an amazing car at a great price.

If you are indeed talking about the Grand Prix (which is now out of production) all can say to that is... Wow! You have got to be kidding.

Yeah, Fords suck, That's why I own, and maintain 3 of them. And You can keep Your 8 YO mentality of throwing stones to Yourself.
And Yes I mean the G8, I've owned 3 GP's in the past, and just can't get over the name change.

The Mustang is a big under achievement in My book. It could have, and should have been so much better.

My drag racing days are over. Going fast in a straight line just doesn't thrill Me any more.
5 Minutes thru Jay Cooke State Park is a lot more fun.

Calling the G8 simply a name change over the Grand Prix is a huge insult to the G8. It's much more than just a name change.

As far as the Mustang, to each their own. I guess I could consider the Challenger an under achievement because it's such a fat *** as well as the Camaro because of its subpar interior. Wait till the next gen Mustang debuts and maybe you'll get your fix.

In other news, don't be expecting any high performance vehicles coming from GM any time soon because GM did away with their High Performance Vehicle Operations.

ford never had to shelve the mustang like the camaro was,so i guess they couldnt have under achieved that much. and your not comparing apples to apples. the mustang has always been outsized engine wise by the camaro, and to be honest, the camaro isnt blowing the doors off a mustang anyways. the amount it beats the mustang by in the qtr mile with a bigger engine and more hp isnt worth writing home about

Umm... the Camaro is using a 310 HP direct-injected 3.6-liter dohc V-6
against the Mustangs 4.6 V8

ummmm. i though we were on the previous mustang like weve been talking about 5.7 vs. 5.0 and 4.6 v8's

also your talking about a new redisign camaro vs a current, nothing new, mustang

buddy we can go all day long with v6 engines chebby, import vs the mustang...noones arguing with you that the mustang lacks a little of this and that in the hp department....but once again, its been tested through and through, never shelved, never will be, and will outlast the camaro and gm....mark my words

If either the Challenger or the new Camaro are going to be successful, a variety of power plants will have to be available and in different body trim levels.
Right now, all I’ve seen from Dodge are the Hemi R/T’s. Not everyone wants one of these $35k plus cars. Are they working on a decent smaller V8 and V6 package?

There is a V6 available according to C/D in the SE I think, The R/T is the 5.7 HEMI and the SRT8 is the 6.1 HEMI
