Is the foil delete mod the pipe that is near the air intake and goes to the front of the truck from the turbo area? and what will this do by taking off the foil?
Yes it is. The pipe that goes from the intake spider to the intercooler, driver side.I used lacquer thinner and a bunch of elbow grease to remove the glue from mine. Supposed to make the turbo whistle louder.
Yes that's it. All it does is on most trucks make the turbo whistle a little louder and make the engine bay look pretty if you clean it up good enough. Seen others on here painting their pipes.
Yes thats the tube, it does nothing for performance it just leaves a cleaner looking engine bay and will make your turbo whistle louder thats all that it is on there for is to dampen the sound.
Take some lacquer thinner or any type of gunk remover and tear into it with a grinder with a wire brush. Where gloves when pulling off the first layer of foil.
I personally kinda like it, it does kinda get annoying on long pulls up a hill but I just turn my radio up, but I also have a wicked wheel in my turbo as well that makes it louder.
Like Justin said above, I used a grinder with a wire brush wheel. I would only recommend this if you plan on painting the IC pipe or take the time to polish it afterwards. I ripped off all the foil part and all the insulation I could, then took the wire brush wheel to it, took me longer to get the foil off than it did the glue and insulation with the grinder, I havent gotten around to painting mine yet, B/c i'm gettin ready to move some stuff around in the engine bay to clean up the look first. Hope this helps
If you get a jug of Crown Sol-U-Strip from Lowes (the thick stuff, not the watery kind) and keep the pipes wet with it for about 30 minutes, the glue just wipes off with shop towels. That's how I did mine. Couldn't be easier. Hold on while I find the thread I started on it...
Got some of the Aircraft Paint Remover, an aerosol can, in the auto paint section at Wal Mart. Peeled off the foil then soaked it in the paint remover, worked on something else for about 20 minutes, scraped with a plastic scraper, repeated once more, wiped it with fine steel wool, washed off the remover, done deal.
You'll want to wear the heavy housework rubber gloves. It ate right through my first set of light latex gloves. Don't use this stuff indoors or in a garage, it's mostly methanol and methylene chloride.
