in my 2005 with a single CD the molding around the radio, air controls, ash tray, .... just pulls off. I started from the bottom right corner and slowly pried outward and worked to the left and then up to the top.
This Thread is full of grate info!!! Not really understanding if the back of the stereo has jacks or if an AUX cable has to be hard wired in??? I have the 6cd changer with an AUX function which is not being utilized according to the display on the stereo. I've been racking my brain for a while now and am hesitant to tear into my dash but this Thread has given me new hope...
I'm still trying to decide which route to go on this??? A friend showed me this device and I believe it's what I'm looking for. Has anyone out there tried one of these??? The plugs on the pic look right and the web site says it's right and I'm thinking it's right...I just need a push before I pull the trigger...

That is the correct device. I am going to pick one up this weekend. I stopped by my local car audio/stereo shop. They had one there and the package was open so I took a look and then did more research on the web. Here is a link to an audio input jack that I found.
I know exactly what you are talking about. I got a fx4 with the center shifter and it didnt have the mp3 jack. So I had to buy a pie adapter. Then I had to get a 3.5 mm male and female cord. I took some measurments between the reverse sensor and cig lighter. I got a drill bit that was just a hair smaller than the female plug. Not real small but for a snug fit. From there I drilled in the center of the panel. I then pushed the plug in from the back. It works great never poped out or anything. It has a clean look cause the plug sits flush with the face of the panel. The only thing I didnt like when I was drilling through the plastic is that it chipped a real small piece. You cant notice it unless you really look at it. Other than that it looks good. I will try to get some pics up for you. It might not be till later though.
Wher did you get the power source for the PIE adapter? Which wire did you tap into?
I got a pie adapter today and started the installation. Now I just need to supply the adaptor with power and a ground.

I wonder if anyone with a pre-2006 has gotten the aux jack parts from ford and made them work in an older truck? I have an '04 with the audiophile 6-disk stereo. will I be able to get that part and plug and play?

I'm not sure if this is what your looking for but crutchfield has a vary good site for referencing this stuff...good luck...
The PIE device lets you control your ipod thru the factory deck, which is cool, but you have to wire power to it right? I gotta think that the stock aux jack part is cheaper also. I dont have any problem controlling my ipod with my ipod. Has anyone retrofitted a ford part in an older truck?

I just got mine in today and I'm going to install it this weekend. Where did you end up connecting the power wire???
