if u wanna add an auxiliary input to your explorer check out the hardwired rf modulators, i think they are that site ryan50hrl is showing above, i heard they might have the better sound quality out of the options but im still tryin to figure that out myself because i eventually want to bypass my factory sirius radio and add an aux input to my audiophile in my truck
What brand name is the head unit is stock on an '07 Screw?
Can you access the rear of the deck without pulling it out of the dash?
If not, how difficult is it to remove it from the dash?
Knowing what connectors/inputs the back of your deck has seems to be a critical aspect of this job, as there are quite a few different types of auxiliary interfaces available.
Here's something else to mull over...wouldn't you want the ability to charge while connected?
The picture below does both, and is one of the items found on this thorough-looking site:
Well here are the pics of how I did it. You really cant tell that chip is there when you look at it unless you really look at it. Once the cable is plugged in you cant even see it at all. If I had a newer drill bit Im sure it wouldnt have done it. Works good and its pretty sturdy just sitting in there. Never had it fall in the back.
Nice location for the jack - I plan on doing the same. I'm thinking we might avoid the chipping from drilling if we first cover the area with a firm application of masking tape, then be sure to drill from the outside in toward the back since drills have a tendancy to break out the backside of the hole we're trying to drill through.
Ya I drilled from the outside in but I didnt use alot of tape which I should have. I think I only put one strip down. Also use a nice new bit. Mine wasnt that new and I think thats why it chipped. Next time I do it I will put lots of tape and a new bit. Other than that it works great.
how is the jack sticking in the hole? just by compression?
I took the drill bit that was just a hair smaller and then kinda forced the jack in there. Kinda had to push and twist it at the same time. There is nothing on the back to hold it in. If you push on the front of it it will pop out but if you just plug the cord in it wont even move.
I have been following this thread for awhile now and I guess I am still confused. I have a Zune that I currently have to use the FM modulator to get it to work in my truck because I don't have an audio input on my stock radio. It is the 6 disc changer model. It has the aux function button so, does that mean it has the input in the back that I could wire up something like you guys are talking about?
I don't know about it if you don't have a jack at all...there are options however, better than the fm modulator thats wireless is a fm modulator thats wired into your truck and put into your antenna line. I put one in my girlfriends grand am and it works way better than the wireless modulator.
I just realized that my wives 07 ranger probably has the plug you are wanting. I will have to get a picture posted later. It is a MP3 jack with a black disk surrounding it.
