If you don't have the stock jack like I don't then your options are get the Line in thing they sell specifically for fords or I don't know what happened to the days of getting an aftermarket deck. I hated the look of my factory cd player. You can get great aftermarket decks for around 80 bucks now a days that have the 3.5 mm jack plus play mp3 cd's with remotes. Plus putting one in these trucks is easier then any other car or truck I have ever done.
True an aftermarket deck is pretty easy to put in. But the difference in sound between the port hook up on the back of the deck to the IPOD and the 3.5mm headphone jack is completely night and day. I picked up all the parts from a wholesaler here for $70. It took about 30min to install and 20 of that was figuring which place to feed the IPOD tail. And I dont have to relearn all the bells and whistles. BONUS!!
In case anyone wants to know the parts to do the hook up here they are.
FRDN-AUX from PIE
RCA-POD from PIE
Stereo removal tool from wal-mart auto section.
Call your ford dealer and see who they use to do the stereo installs. They are usually able to get the parts for wholesale. It saved me $40 from the PIE.NET site. Hope this helps
I cant find any adapter on that PIE website that says specifically if it works with the ipod touch or not. Any one know off hand if any of those adapters would work for me? I have an 06 with the 6 cd changer. Would like something that works with the Ipod controls as well as the radio AUX controls.
Hey Dutch, the new Ipod touch and nano take a different kind of hookup at the bottem of the unit. Call PIE and they will tell you what you need. I have the old style so the #'s I gave worked for us non advanced Ipoders. They do have the set up and I belive it will interface controls with your unit. I belive it only lets you flip through Playlists. Mine I just use the Ipod. Hope it helps
it also depends which generation iPod or iPhone you have.
the latest gen of them are backwards compatible with the next prior generation on the audio interface at the bottom. but the newest won't charge via that port.
you have to have a connect specifically for the latest gen iPod/Shuffle/iPhone for it to play and charge via the bottom port
This Thread is full of grate info!!! Not really understanding if the back of the stereo has jacks or if an AUX cable has to be hard wired in??? I have the 6cd changer with an AUX function which is not being utilized according to the display on the stereo. I've been racking my brain for a while now and am hesitant to tear into my dash but this Thread has given me new hope...

Yea, I got the same stereo and have been watching this thread some too. What DOES that "aux" button do? I pulled the stereo out last week to see if there were any unused ports to plug in an "aux" device and I didnt see any... Did ford just go and put a useless button on my stereo for "cosmetic purposes"? LOL

I haven't looked at mine yet but I would assume (y'all know what that means) to utilize the AUX button you would have to tap into the exsisting plug/plugs. Dose anyone have a wiring diagram???
There is alot of great information on this thread. Thanks to all.
I have a 05 Ford 150 and I just got a PIE Aux adapter. I have been trying to find somewhere to tell me how to remove the molding around my head unit so that I can install the PIE unit. Installation seems pretty easy once I get to the head unit, I just don't want to break that nice fake wood molding around the stereo.
Someone mentioned a stereo removal tool from Walmart, which I dont know what that is.
If anyone can point me to a web site that has removal/installation instructions it would be much appreciated.
Thanks again for all the great info on this site!!
I took a look behind mine today and y'all were right it is pretty simple. I have an unused jack on the back of my stereo...dose anyone know what this jack is used for...I'm thinking it's for the Bells and Whistle on a XLT??? I have pic's but this site isn't letting me post pic's....
