Use a grease gun that has a grease zerk on the end. Not sure of the type of grease, but mixing some types can cause problems. At least that is what my trailer guy tells me. White lithium is usually used on boat trailers.
And if you don't grease them, they break... maybe thats just my bad luck tho

Like I told the new guy at work," If is has a grease fitting, grease it." Our OTR tractor/trailers only have a "few"......dozen, that is!
We use the same EP grease on the chassis and U-joints. Pretty much on anything that twists, turns, or slides that has a fitting.
