That is the problem with chevy's, you find some that only dyno 195 rwhp, but then again you can find those that were built right from the factory that do have the claimed 270 ish rwhp. FYI my current truck a '96 C/K 1500 with only true dual exhaust and a K & N dyno'd at 295 rwhp, and 316 ft. lbs of torque. So for those chevy owners lucky enought to get the few that had the right tolerances they are pretty quick. BTW can a lightning bark the back tires at 25mph, just curious. Y'all should see the look on a 'stang owners face when i pull that one.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Jun-02 AT 07:15 PM (EST)]Well lets hope you don't race a Z28 in your mustange, cause that would be a joke. Have any of you ever heard of the Silverado SS that is coming out, with its normally aspirated 395 horses. It was tested against the new lighting in motortrend, and won. As for heavy duty trucks, it is not comparrison. The HD would destroy any of your overhead cam, high reving, torqless, sissy trucks, and then tow their battered carcass back home. My Buddy has a new 2002 lighting, with a pully kit, a chip, and a K@N. It is a badass truck, but I can't wait for the new silverado SS to come out and kick the crap out of it. But as for an older 454 SS, it beats the older lighting, and has chevy's legendary aftermarket potential to really turn it into a beast. I'd beat an older lighting handily in my parents Bonneville, and your talking about beating an SS454 in a mustange. That speaks for itself.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Jun-02 AT 08:55 PM (EST)]Jkritson, first of all, he didn't post to start a Chevy vs. Ford argument, but since you got something to prove, you had to go and make yourself look stupid. And speaking of a 454ss, maybe you just like all those extra cubic inches under your hood to make up for the ones you lack between your legs. This is a Ford message board, stop trying to make trouble before your parents find out you were driving their bonneville and ground you for 6 months.
Oh yeah, and speaking of Mustangs vs. Z28s... its too bad they sold more 'stangs than Camaros and Firebirds combined. And 2003 we'll see a SVT stang that would whoop anything Chevy could throw at it if they could AFFORD to make another Z28.
Dude, get a life because you just don't get it. The Powerstrokes have more torque, and at a lower rpm range which is exactly what you want in a heavy duty work truck. Having gobs of torque and power at an rpm range that your truck will never see isn't of any use. As far as the Silverado SS goes, i'll believe it when we see it because I refuse to believe any factory numbers, or numbers of a concept of prototype because it just won't resemble the real thing in most cases. Besides, why in the hell did it take GM 4 years to even get in on the game anyway? Oh well, too bad GM trashed their pony cars........maybe they knew the 03 Cobra would make them obsolete anyway!

I have no respect for a concept vs a PRODUCTION truck (the fastest production truck, btw), but if you want to bring up the issue of concepts, then you're makin' Chevy look bad cuz that GT40 concept makes anything Chevy has look slow. It might scare the paint right off a Viper, too. Oh and SRT/10? Blaaaah I'm sure if those things make any money at all Ford can stick that 5.4 with those incredible numbers (500/500) right into the Ford Lightning. That would be something.. the SVT Lightning R. Something on that basis.. But thats all iffy, and regardless of what MIGHT be, as of now, the Ford Lightning -IS- the Fastest production Truck, and you can't argue with that. Silverado SS concept and SRT/10? Blah, I bet Chevy and Dodge lose money if they decide to produce either of htose.
If they build both of those trucks with mass production in mind, they will most definately lose large sums of money. However, if they build them with limited production in mind, they might not lose any money at all. We already know that the SRT/10 will be a limited production truck, but little is known about the Silverado SS yet besides the rumors. If it does indeed come with the AWD as rumored, i'd like to see how long it lasts without puking. I really wish our Lightnings came with AWD, but then again, AWD only helps during launch and could actually slow things down once you are moving due to additional driveline losses.

Hey all. IM not trying to start anything here but have you ever noticed that all a chevy guy wants to do is run his mouth and pick on ford and dodge guys and tell them that what they have is nothin but junk. I go to college here in NY for automotive and diesel mechanics. There are about 25 guys in my class about 10 ford guys 10 chevy guys and 5 dodge guys. Every chance those chevy guys get that is all they do. MY truck is better than yours, that is ugly, thats a stupid idea, that motor could'nt get out of its own way. Us ford and dodge boys never say anything about that to chevy guys. We could care less. I find it funny that they say all this until they get beat and they shut up. One day in the paring lot we had a truck pull. We put a 96 F-150 302 auto bumper to bumper with a 91 K1500 with a 350 and a 5 speed. Both were in 4 low, guess who won. Yup the ford he dragged him about 10 feet with all four of the chevys tires spinning. The ford never spun a tire. I have never laughed so hard in my life.
Another thing is that all those chevy boys think that the "Chart" numbers mean everything. They are always saying look at the charts and you will see who has the power. I dont know about you guys but i go by what i have seen in REAL LIFE situations. Here at out county fair we have had a 4X4 truck pull for about seven years. For those seven years ford had won all but one. But a chevy didn' win that one year a Dodge did. The first three years of that pull some guy in a piece of crap 69 ford with a 460 and a four speed won. Then some other 460's won and then that one year a dodge V-10 won. The only reson he won is because the biggest ford there was a 351. Then last year a 2000 F-250 with a Powerstroke won. Man was that impressive He full pulled twice, the high pitch of the turbo hurt your ears. Man that was awesome. IF you dont come to this pull with ford 460 or a powerstroke you are gonna lose. You would be suprised at the number of chevys that show up with 350's (chevys god). A chevy with a 454 got beat by a dodge 360. Those new Hd are a joke they didnt get very far. The only trucks that i have never seen pull are a new duromax, 8.0 and a ford V-10. It will be interesting to see when they do come. Well i think that is enough for now. What do all the rest of ya think.
hey anyone heard of the silverado coolside it rund 575hp and 605lbs.torque stock i think it would blow the doors off a lightning this is an opinion and only one
Opinions are like ***holes, everyones got one. And guess what? Yours stinks. Lets take a look at the FACTS.
Ford Lightning ----> Fastest Production Truck
This isn't some one of a kind beast that only a millionaire can afford. This is a truck that is comparatively priced, can't beat that. Its not a limited vehicle. Its production, and it isn't extremely expensive. Bang for the buck? A whole lot of it.
Once again, you people try to compare a concept vehicle to a full production vehicle. You amaze me chevy boy, because the Silverado Coolside is a concept and will simply remain a concept. GM doesn't have the ***** to pull something like that off. You just simply comare a production vehicle with a concept, because a concept vehicle is exactly that! Why not head to your Chebby forum where you'll find more people who agree with you, or proving as ignorant as you are, you are probably better off here

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-Jun-02 AT 00:15 AM (EST)]One thing, the Ford Lightning doesn't win out because of numbers, times, and track results. Its a great design. The appearance is superb. Driving it is a wonderful experience, and it has the soul of a Sport Truck. Its an amazing truck made for amazing people.. the Middle-Class American
ok then well u dont have to be #####s about it u know ford makes some good stuff the lightning is very fast but if chevy comes out with the coolside it will wax a lightning and it is told to be unexpensive
That's fine with me, because we both know that Chebby won't build it! Come on, seriously it's been over 3 years, and we still havn't seen the Silverado SS yet! They keep saying we'll see it this fall, but the final specs on it are still up for grabs! Even then, if it does come out, look at how many years it took them to finally make something!
