rollerstud98, I was just picking up a rental dmax when the cop phones me and said they found it in the middle of an oilfield road idling. +/- 10:00 am.
bayou, yeah we kind of got screwed on the laws up here, but who's to say the laws don't have a few loopholes.
They came to steal your truck while already driving a stolen truck?
In the old West they hung horse thieves on the spot. It cut waaaay down on the incidence of horse theft since everyone knew the consequences.
The guy I feel sorry for is the guy who worked his butt off paying for the other truck, the one they rolled. I don't feel sorry for them ONE BIT! I could care less what the circumstances were that lead up to their "dire need" to steal two trucks.
Their "estate" should have to make both owners whole again before any heirs get a thing.
glad you got your truck back, but man does that suck....this kinda stuff makes me want to leave my shotgun loaded by my bed with slug rounds waiting for someone to come steal truck!
It sucks to have a nice truck stolen, my dad's Bronco was stolen and stripped many years back. Truck was recovered and restored, and now my brother drives it (dad had a stroke and was never fully "restored" ). So I know what it's like.
I hate to say it, but I feel for whoever was killed. While they should have gotten something, death certainly wasn't fitting a stolen truck. I keep in my mind what compelled them to such actions, as I think we all should. Sometimes people are just bad, often times they do things because they feel they have no other choices.
Someone may have temporarily lost a truck today, two families permanently lost a member. Keep what is really important, important.
It sounds to me like these guys were pros, and far from first time offenders. I wouldn't want them in my neighborhood, and don't want to pay the taxes to provide them with a cushy life in jail, so how bad is it really that a couple leeches of society have saved the justice system thousands and thousands of dollars? I don't wish death on anyone, but if it had to happen, I'm glad it happened to them instead of a contributing member of society.
I can agree with what you said, but just because they are like that does not mean their families are bad too. I was just dating this girl the other month, turned out she has some bad drug problems, met her family and they are some of the nicest people I've ever known having to deal with this crazy crack head daughter/sister. It's pretty sad as she is also a good person when not on drugs but can't seem to kick the habbits or ditch the loser friends. It's a vicious circle that sometimes even good people get sucked into, same with stealing trucks.

Why? So they can post bail and steal another truck. They got what they deserved! They could have killed some innocent people on the road fleeing from police.
Glad you got your truck back,,! I feel not one once of pitty for those SCUM-BAG Sum-bitchs,,,They Got exactly what they Deserve !
Paying Taxes for all these Scum-Bag, Murderes, Rapists, child Molesters, and ETC,,, getting a cushy jail cell,,Jails are over croweded,,,thats an easy fix,,,NO ten years on death row,,,IF YOU DID THE CRIME,,,GUESS WHAT,,IT'S YOUR TIME,,,,,,,,,BANG !!!!!,,,,,,,,,,,,,,NEXT !!
Glad you got your truck back, I hope they didn't screw anything up. If that had happened to me, I would have had to replace the back window and clean the blood out of the carpet.
Sure those guys could have killed someone running from the cops, it's why cops aren't allowed to have high speed chases around here anymore. There are better and smarter ways to stop people.
What makes those who are suggesting killing someone because of a TRUCK any better. The motives could have been far less regal than desperation, but DEATH? Is a truck really that much more important than a life? I guess if I have a kid and he hits your kid I should take him out back and shoot him, must be going down the road to ruin. Get it over with now.....
Amazing.
What they did was wrong, but this thought process has got to change. It's great that you can afford this truck and have a job and the means to do all those great things to it. You've got insurance right? So you can just get another one. Don't take it for granted or you will be the next guy doing desperate things to try and find the means to keep paying for it. Look around and think about why these things might be happening more right now.
Ultimately it was their fault for driving poorly and wrecking the truck and getting killed. We don't live in the old west anymore, they hung people for lots of really bad reasons too. We are a modern society and there are better and smarter ways of handling situations. I believe in the right to own firearms, but it scares me what some of you might do with them. It's not right for a person to take another's property any more or less than it is to think about taking another's life, or unduly justify the loss of life.
We have a system for a reason, to serve justice and to keep the decisions out of the hands of the public at large OR a single person. Else we might be shooting everyone and cutting off hands still. It might not be perfect, but justice is something I'm more than willing to pay for.
Glad you got your truck back. SOB's tried to get mine a couple of months ago from a north LRT lot in Edmonton while I was at work. My Viper system stopped them, but if they had more time and a less busy lot, it might have been a different story. The first words out of the adjusters mouth was "not another one". Turns out when they couldn't get mine started, they went for a 350 less than a click away and got that one.
I learned a lesson though. I never leave the truck to LRT parking lots anymore. It was the one day I'd taken it to the train since I had an appointment after work. I keep the truck in the garage when I'm not driving it and got a sign for the window that says "All valueables removed and vehicle won't start anti theft device installed." Hopefully that makes the next low life go on to easier pickings.
Ya know, even if the police catch a car thief, they're out on bail before the ink is even dried on the police report. Since the jerks that stole your truck got killed on 63, I'm thinking that at least they didn't kill anybody else during their little joy ride and they won't be around to steal trucks from hard working Albertans anymore. I don't have much sympathy for them, drug problem or not, Good ridance....
There is one thing about crime and the legal system I don't understand. This would aply to both sides of the border. Why is the legal system so soft on criminals. It is espescially true in Canada. Everyone is calling for changes to the legal system. Yet the polititions can't or don't fix anything. Judges are soft on sentences because they don't want to make new law or set a precedence in case they are overturned on appeal. Even when the police catch the crooks and they are sentenced, here, if it's not a violent crime, the offender may get a "conditional sentence". In essence, the convicted offended gets grounded to his/her home for a couple of years. Some deterent eh.......
