I'll take the 10.5" of snow over the sub zero temps we've had here for the last month or so. Ok, so it hasn't been below zero the whole time, but it sure seems like it.
Yeah, your boy looks thrilled to be out there shoveling. Probably the same look I'll get out of my boy this summer when he starts push mowing the yard.
We haven't had a significant snow storm here in 4-5 weeks.
Go to college, hopefully you'll figure it out before you finish your CORE classes. From what I know about you...I would highly suggest looking into some type of engineering. Engineers get to do some very neat, very intellectual work. They solve problems, get to play with some cool machines, and oftentimes spend a lot of time out in the field.
Oddly enough I was actually thinking about going into engineering. I'd be 4th generation engineer in my family.

Personally, I'm not too worried about you. You've already demonstrated some of these qualities by getting the your truck. Something else to consider, even though your parents won't want you to, is some time in the military. You'll learn a lot of life's lessons very quickly there, as well as getting training and some on the job experience that can set you apart from others when it comes time to find a job in "the real world"
One thought I have is operating equipment for the state DOT. They do get paid decent with decent enough benefits for the long haul. The only issue would be getting the job.

I guess when you don't know any different you don't know better. The weather down there is soooo much nicer.
Hey, Jim. When you're down there ya wanna bring your airbox template back with ya?
Our biggest snow so far in the northern suburbs of Mpls has been 4". Another rotten year for snow. Used to average 60" then down to 40" lately and not even close so far. Will probably get more this spring when it is totally useless to get. Blah!!! I need to get the heck out of this state.

Yeah, I hear all about it. My old room mate from my active duty days lives up in St. Cloud. He's been pretty miffed over the lack of snow up there lately.

We have had a couple snow storm that dropped 6+" this year, the most being 12 1/2" at once. But that was in December. So far in January we've got maybe 4" total. I remember those winters with a lot of snow, must be global warming, oh I mean climate change or what ever it is being called now
edit: edit and smilies worked normal for the first time in days!!

Here's a pic of what I used:
He'll at least get the benefit of having a motorized mower. I did use one of those reel type mowers a couple times when I was younger, but not to cut the whole yard, just a little to mess around with it.
yeah, it was many years ago, but I'd do it again AFTER I lubed it up!! That ended up being a pretty good workout! Seriously, your shoulders & triceps to control it, your legs to push, and your core to transmit the power of your legs up through your arms.... nothing like good old-fashioned manual labor to kick yer but & get in shape!

Yeah, I've gotten lazy the last few years when it comes to mowing, using a rider, but I kept spilling my beer while push mowing
Plus, there's no good place to put a beer holder on a push mower
