just read that the cost of a smokes is going up April 1st, maybe this will cause some to quit. not likely though, Nicotine is SOOOOOOOOOO adictive!! I feel like a fish, HOOKED!
Actually they jacked the taxes up here in iowa (which was the catalyst to get me to quit) and so many people quit that the revenues dropped instead of increased like they planned and now they have a shortfall for the state medical costs that the tax was supposed to cover (understand they raised the taxes BY $1/pack on top of the 27 cents that was already on them PLUS the 6% sales tax too) so what is the solution? raise the taxes again. Some people never learn, raising taxes usually results in less revenue LOL.
It's been a while since I have been here but as I read back on previous post's that many of you are winning the battle and those that are trying is putting up a gallant fight. There is a thousand and one reasons to give up tobacco but unlike the advertising of years back there is very few reasons to start or continue. The advertisements of the day lied badly remembering old ads where doctors even endorced the use of tobacco and movie stars and singers bragged how it helped their throat when they performed.
One cannot forget how cool you looked as well with a cigarette hanging off your lip like James Dean or many other movie hero's that could survive a horse runaway and shoot out, or a horrible car wreck with exsplosions only to have our hero emerge with a cigarette still hanging out of his lip thirsting for more action.
What rubbish and please forgive me for this is not a anti tobacco rant but just an observation of things that I have seen and heard in my life on this. For many that are hooked (as my dad was) I have all the respect in the world for any effort you are attempting in your fight to discontinue tobacco products.
A few years back I would have scoffed and put a dip in my lip thinking what the heck, I still feel good yet, well as a matter of fact I was developing intestinal troubles that I blame for getting older as well as some funny little things I started to feel in my chest from time to time as well, all passed off as no big deal until a chance one day to see how desperate I could become in my need to feed a need. I quit without a second thought because for a moment I was ready to hit some one that was totaly innocent in outrage because the tobacco had not been delivered to the store in normal shipment but was promised for the next day,(still makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck).
The end to all this as stated before on this thread is simply I' am not that strong I just could not stand to have something with that much control over me. I feel there is enough things in my life to control me and I can work around those things but knowing I could hurt another in total desperation of something that useless is unforgiving. I have been quit since Oct 07 and never looked back once even in the face of others that would open a can in front of me to test my will. My intestinal system and heart are in fine shape today and I want to keep them that way as long as possible.
