I've been on Chantix for about a week. No smokes since I started using it.
The instructions say your allowed to smoke for the first week to allow the Chantix to build up in your system. I'm determined more than ever and I ran out of smokes the other day.
Chantix works quite well. My cravings are only mild and I don't think about them that much. Once a day at the most. The cool thing is while I'm at work or doing something, hours upon hours will pass before I realize it's been that long even thinking about cigarettes.
The other side of that story is I've had some pretty wild dreams. Some of them unpleasant and I can remember most of them quite vividly.
I'm finding myself more calm and relaxed. Kind of like having a beer on a summer evening.
Some of the side effects of Chantix don't occur to me. Suicidal thoughts, natious feeling, vomitting etc... Only side effect I'm having is the wicked dreams. I will continue with the Chantix because at this point, I feel it's the only thing that truely help smokers if there committed. Chantix really does help me make the quitting process alot easier. Between keeping the cravings mild and keeping my thoughts about cigarettes to a minimum.
SuperSnake, I wanted to add to your rep. but my computer isn't letting me for some reason. I noticed FTE made some changes recently so it could be that or my computer is just old. I wanted to thank you for adding to my rep and wanted to return the favor. Thanks man!!
It seemed as though I had the wicked dreams for a while after I quit when I did cold turkey. I think the brain when deprived of nicotine can be left in a state of termoil. I can not begen to amagine the amount of chemicals that go through you from these tobacco products these days but would almost think a Dow emblem imbossed in your brain may be a thought. (Just a running thought) Good luck AspenF150.
Congrats on your honesty and integrity Aspen. It takes a lot for you to step up and say you slipped and that you still really want nothing more than to quit. Keep up with the chantix and have faith in yourself.
5.4- I try to just keep with a routine that includes everything but smoking. I always smoked with everyone else and suddenly I notice no one is smoking in my office any more, no one is smoking around me anymore. I didn't know that would happen. Sure at times some light up just not in my office. I do not find myself wanting it.
To everyone else keep going, thank you for your support, keep us all in thought and prayers and Carl we all thank you for opening the door for us to quit. I know that it was your posts on here and the real life struggles you have endured that planted a seed for us.
I've only been a smoker for year now, my problem is I don't want to quit. I really don't know what else I would do at the bar, on break, when bored, hanging out.
Now I can't really afford to keep on smoking from a money and health perspective. What did you guys find to eat up that extra time and get you out of the office for 5 minutes or so?
If you need a substitute, try Licorice sticks. That tangy flavor might just work for you.
I'd like to encourage you to quit now, because it will be easy for you. I smoked for fifty years before I quit, and I can tell you for sure, the longer you smoke the tougher it is to quit. I won't even go into the health consequences, we all know what they are. But the problem is, they sound like long term threats, which they are, but know this. You do yourself a little damage with every smoke.
Bdox- I definitly see where you're coming from with the longer you somke the harder to quit however I seriously think my problem is mental (and the state just let me buy a new pistol). Its more of I associate the smoke break with just that unwind time in a perfectly measured time period. Ya know how it is, ya go have a smoke and pull yourself out of a situation~ unwind and just have you time, then go back and it's like a fresh start. Thats the thing that really gets me, any food or something to take your mind off it aint the same, and as soon as i can find my 'get out of **** free' mechanism and something to do while driving i think i'm set
I can tell you there is no perfect substitute for having a smoke. But try the licorice sticks. Just bite off a real small bite and try to make it last. It tastes good, and it takes care of the "mouth habit" part. You CAN do it. The first thing is to try to re-create your self image as a non-smoker and just keep thinking about it. You have no idea how many people don't want to be around smoking or people who have been smoking. The smell really puts them off.

i dont like most people lol... i'll give it a shot here as soon as i smoke my free pack i got earlier. I paid 10 bucks and for some reason i was talking to the cute chick at admiral and she just randomly gave me an extra pack... not questioning her i looked the other way and left with 3 when i only paid for 2.
The other big problem i do forsee is when the weather gets better and I go out on rides with the M/C... smoking just seems like part of the ride, that is where i forsee the big weakness:/

Stop looking for reasons to fail. Don't set yourself up. Once you make the decision toquit, stick to it. If you fail, try again. There are countless peple who failed to quit smoking on the first try. There is too much support for quitting (even the tobacco companies have some stop smoking programs!) to give up after only one try. DO IT!!!!
Kissing is a great mouth activity. Great to quit. Kisses taste better when no smoking is involved.
Tootsie pops help too.
Holy Cow! Never underestimate the logic of a woman. I bragged about my valliant struggle to be free and profound insites into why I stay that way, then hoosierbaby64 wrecked all that with just a little bit of nice logic.
Just when I thought I was getting really smart. Truthfully any thing that can be done to beat tobacco can only help you. I fear there will be a day when there will no longer be a choice.
