ok i have a 95 psd at work and the fuel in the filter gets extremely hot. is it suposed to get that hot or is there something that controls the temp of the fuel and it is stuck. i know this might sound like a stupid question but the fuel in this thing will scald you. just want to know if this is normal?
Sounds like the fuel bowl heater is staying on. There's a rectangel shaped plug just below the fuel pressure regulator. Unplug it and see what happens. Or you could remove the fuse. I can't remember which one it is, either 9 or 22 under the hood. But it just sounds like the fuel bowl heater is messing up.
You could try to unplug the fuel heater but you can't pull the fuse cause it also powers the PCM. BUT mostly likely its normal. The fuel after it leaves the filter it going into the head and the fuel that isn't used is sent via the return circuit to the tank and some goes back to the filter housing. Also due to the location of the housing there is a lot of engine heat transfer that would heat fuel.
Yeah, that fuse does more things, I forget. But no, I wasn't drinkin. But I still think it shouldn't be "scalding hot". But then again, I've never stuck my hand in there directly after running it.
The 3 discs on the heater plate are thermistors that regulate the heat, I wonder if they broke loose at one time and someone soldered them back on and ruined them so they don't turn off.
