OK so my 02 quit Im back to this one.
I put in a diffrent MAP sensor and it makes a pile of diffrence (to the good) but when I rev it up it backfires when I let off on it?
It still seems to hesitate going down the road when I step on it but its 98% better than it was.
By the way the new sensor I put in was from a 91 with a gas engine?
Think that matters?

I would say it makes alot of difference. A gas motor on decel will be in Vaccum, ours is still under boost, or positive pressure. So I would think it would tell the pcm it has positive psi, and to fire the injectors.. At least that's my opinion. But even if that's not correct, I would still think it mattered.

Maybe thats what causes the backfiring?
Its got lots of power going ahead now.
I went up the road a bit and its fairly steep uphill from my house and I was in 4th and picking up speed.
Had to let off because of ice and grouchie neighbours.

Yeah, I think so!..........What made you think a map sensor from a gasser would work on a diesel?

I have a thread somewhere (maybe the start of this one )where I said the truck was backfiring so powerstrokes do backfire .
Before I changed the sensor.
You can phone me up and Id be happy to let you hear it , then you would know they do backfire.

Yeah it would, either that or a broken rocker. It'll idle like Sh!!t and have no power once the rpm's come up. never seen it smoke black though just white or grey. I've got both OBS and SD pushrod sets if you need some.

Do 91's have MAP sensors?
I looked under the hood of a wrecked one and couldnt see it anywhere.
I know 93's do.
