i have a friend at work whos wife just baught a camry, she prieviously had a camry that was built in japan. he says the new car is terribly made, the pieces dont fit right on the inside and rides terrible. he now wishes he would have bought a milan like my wifes. american cars are better people wont let go of the perception that foreign cars are better! you can not buy a an accord or camry with awd, and for people who live in the snow belt its a neccesity! i kind of hope the non-union workers in the south who build the jap cars, the substandard pay and benefits are finally cathing up to toy and honda!by the way has any body read "rising sun" by michael criton i already know what you are going to say, its only fiction! but he researches his books to no end. they are laughing hysterically about our automakers troubles, when they fold they will have us by the ***** and it seems like no one in america cares! these factories built the jeeps, tanks and plants that brought us to victory over the the people that wanted us wiped off the planet only sixty years ago. a jap finance minister said after we rebuilt them and taught them everything we know, that maybe we cant beat them by force we will beat them financially! why do you think half of america is owned by japan, check it out it will scare you! the people hate us, make fun of us behind our backs! did you know if you buy an american car in japan the goverment audits you, your neighbors will not talk to you and you will be an outcast! i wish that would happen here if you buy a foreign car! we have no patriotism only a me-first attitude and it going to bite us in the keester someday! december 7 is coming up how many traitors will buy a jap or german car on that day!! traitors!! after reading these posts and listening to the elected officials who said let the automakers die, i have to rant! are we going to have any industry in this country anymore? everything will be imported if they have their way! a service economy is that what people want, everybody working at walmart!

xen·o·phobe (zěn'ə-fōb', zē'nə-) n. A person unduly fearful or contemptuous of that which is foreign, especially of strangers or foreign peoples.
Don't judge me and I won't judge you.

Tim
I wonder where your tv and computer were built.(point being that patriotism is in the eye of the beholder)
...
I have had one automobile that had multiple problems in my almost 30 years of driving/owning cars/trucks. Just one.
Change the oil, check for wear and tear and take care of it as needed, don't slam on your brakes to stop, don't burn rubber constantly... they have all done well. The only vehicle I had any problems with were relatively minor, and more of my problem was with service than the vehicle itself... usually that is what really gets me going, not vehicle quality (because vehicles have been at the very least, decent since I have been driving) but the quality of service.
When I had a SAAB, they treated me like royalty and did solid work on the car as needed. When I had a Chevy (and this is specific to a SINGLE dealership - not all) they were incompetent and it took them, for example, 8 months of the vehicle being in and out before they finally figured out the problem, which they should have found on the first or second visit at most (gear grinding in the transfer case).
I recently had a bad experience at ONE of the Ford dealerships in Phoenix... I won't go back there again, but will go to another dealership (probably where I bought the truck, even tho' that's a bit of a hike). Those bad experiences are what add a sour note to ownership (for me).
But mechanically, I have been pleased with all of the vehicles I have owned. You read about nightmare stories online, but none of those has happened to any of my vehicles.

I don't know what your talking about. My FORD has been more reliable than any other vehicle I have ever owned. I don't know where you get your info from but I maintain my truck/cars very well with oil changes etc..... I haven't had kool-aid since i was 10. I drink beer mind you. Honestly, do you have a FORD or are you just being a Troll on this site.
Troll, troll, troll your boat gently off the screen.

What does it matter! It's not like if your gonna drive your computer to work or haul a 7000# TT. My laptop is made somewhere in Asia. It's a TOSHIBA and I'm planning on buying a IMAC Pro becuase the PC's from China or Japan suck. I'd rather have an american made MAC BOOK mind you. Mac beats PC in every aspect. I'm not being Patriotic, Computers (MAC) and 3/4-1 ton TRUCKS from (GM,FORD) are far superior from Asian makers and they are built in the U.S. which is what I choose to own due to the reliability, durability. Eye of the beholder - I think not.
well about 20 something years ago there was a big international harvester plant close to where i live, but The UNION wanted more and more...so guess what happened they left.in some cases unions are good, but i dont have one,i never really heard of someone getting fired of the way they looked, wouldnt u just not hire them

The buying a vehicle for patriotic reasons is kinda trumped out when a guy buys a bunch of other crap from elsewere, including electronics. (most electronics out of japan are superior to the electronics here in north america)
(besides alot of guys make their living on a computer, they need quality tools no matter what shape or form)
Eye of the beholder my friend.
On Edit: how it relates to this ford quality topic, there are stats to back up that the imports have had better quality in some cars for a number of previous years, but some die hard domestic guys seem to always blame the "biased reports" and claim that what they have is always the best, regardless if it actually is or not (eye of the beholder)
I think the patriotism thing is the same thing. While a guy is flying his flag and driving his "best quality american made vehicle" he has towels from india, a tv from china and a computer from japan, might have even bought those towels from wal-mart.
xenophobe? think not! snowmobile in canada, love it! vacation in mexico, love it! go to hiroshima after they attacked us and we kicked their ***, priceless! they hate us,just like most muslims do because of our way of life, thats why they are laughing at our industrial might dissolving into ruins. remember there were two world wars started by the same two countries against us,or did you forget when you were mailing your money to japan or germany on the blood of our soldiers?
Depends on the state. If its a right to work state the case would have been thrown out of court.
Frankly, someone going out with the boss's ex.... that's not very good judgement. You have to remember, the company created the job, and the job belongs to the company, not the employee. If someone works for my company I should be able to hire/fire whoever I want so long as its not discriminating a protected status group.
Now, in this case, it can certainly create a situation where the boss and other employees are not comfortable working with the guy, possible communications break-downs because it, etc., and if a boss or other employees are impacted by an employees decisions they should have every right to replace a person who potentially creates hostility in the work place.

I have seen it before. The company can use anything the employee has done in the past or present that is related to JOB PERFORMANCE. Every time you use a timeclock or report your time to the company, it goes in your permenant record. The company can go back and review that and put together a case for tardiness if such case exists. Most companies have a way to track the how much productivity you show on the job. (especially Union shops). Your metal stamps that show what welds you did on metal fabrications, Assembly operations tracking, Signoff sheets, quality inspections.. etc...... Anything to show that you are not doing your job the way it is supposed to be done. In otherwords, They'll make an example out of you, and use the opportunity to show other that they are watching. (or at least that is the way it is perceived by the union employees.) I made the jump to salaried/management 9 years ago now and it even happens here.
I here about firings, and the most used reason is 'lack of productivity'.
Luckily, I'm on my lunchbreak. so I can do this right now, and not get in trouble.
Don't tell me I'm a conspiracy theorist.. I worked in a UAW union shop for 6 years. It happens. The union cannot protect the worker that is slacking off or breaking the rules. I've seen it over and over.

For your information 99% of the electronics used in any laptop be it a mac or PC are made outside of the US. They get shipped here then built. My alienware laptop was US built but the only part inside that was made in the US was the CPU. Also Mac's are no better in reliability than a PC because as you should know a mac is a PC as they uses the same hardware. The only difference is the software aand im sure the same goes for any car in the US. I almost certain that most parts are sourced from asia then shipped to the US then classed as US made. A company would have to be stupid not to source production from a cheaper source. Ok it's not best for the US but companys are about to make money.
I for one dont buy US just because im from the US. that would be stupid. My tv is pannasonic(japan), B&W speakers(uk), Amp(japan), Specialized mountain bike(china), WIndsurf equipment(china), Truck(US), Rc car(china) I recon the turck is the only thing that is built in the US but even then i wouldnt like to say how much of it is made in asia.
