Is it posible to change the u-joint on the right front axle next to the differental without pulling the third member out?

yes it is but its tricky! Torch the center out, press the remaining caps out. Clean the bores with emery paper and clean the snap ring grooves then begin the hardest part of putting the new joint back together with out any needles getting out of place.

Tim, are you crazy? He asked how to do it without removing the "third member". We're talking about the gear set, differential, large helical cut spinny things... right?

You don't have to remove the gears to do U joints. But I guess if you have to do it with the wheel on, I guess you could do it like that.

Doing Ujoints isn't hard at all.

Put the front axle on jack stands.
Pull the wheel and tire.
Remove the brake caliper
Remove the locking hub
Remove the bearing lock nut/lock ring/lock nut.
Pull the hub and rotor off.
Remove the spindle 5 or 6 nuts.
Pull axle shafts out.

Now you can remove the Ujoint on a bench with either a press, or like I do bolt and hammer.

Clean the axle yokes
Install new Ujoint
Reassemble.

Duck, I think he's asking about a D44 or D50. The have a c clip holding the axle in place unlike a D60....no clips.

That's what I am assuming as well. He's probably working on a 250 with a dana 50 TTB.

I guess you are right, I never thought of it being less than a 1ton. LOL But even still, you don't have to pull the gears......or do you? Now that I think of it, in all my days of building axles for the mud trucks and these trucks, I've never had to mess with a TTB.......HMMMM, how about that?

Okay how about this, since I don't care one way or another who won the election, and have never been racist, I think I'll try it on. Here we go.

Man if you are working on anything less than a Dana 60 or bigger, it ain't worth messin' with. It's a lesser axle and should be put to death immediately. I think we should pile all TTB and IFS assemblies in a hole, use cutting torches and plasma cutters to have our way with them, then bury them forever so they don't infect the rest of the axles.

1 TON POWER!!!!!

Okay, even that felt wrong. Let's find an answer for this guy.
