You can do this on a Saturday... rebuild both rear brake cylinders, and install new axle seals. You'll need to re-shoe your brakes, anyway, from having the fluid or diff oil on them.
The rebuild kits for the wheel cylinders are cheap, and the hone to hone them out is cheap. They're dirt simple to rebuild, and then you get to keep the nifty tool for your tool kit. :-) Also, unless I'm completely on crack, since these axles have seals and are not the sealed-bearing type, according to NumberDummy, they'll probably be really easy to re-seal. If your bearings are okay, then just drive in new seals and re-install your axles, and call it a day.
Sounds like a plan, you've almost convinced me. But I bought a wheel cyl. the first day when the wheel started smoking... and you won't guess where it was made. AND SINCE i GAVE UP THE BEERS , this kinda work sure has lost a lot of the lustre..I'm kiddin, it's all attitude right. But I will do my best, havin so much fun, can't stop now. Pap.
Well, I'd be shocked to find out it was made in the USA. Nothing is, any more. That's why I'd rebuild the cylinders you have. At least then you're still using an American product. :-) Besides, you can take the wheel cylinder you bought back to the store, and probably trade it in for both rebuild kits, and part of the hone.
I think I will rebuild the cyls. I am going to try to get this truck to where I can depend on it, will be pulling a horse trailer to the high school rodeos, the age of the truck goes with the trailer, thats the other part of this project, but I bet thats on a different forum/// Pap
