We had drought conditions for 10 months and then the first week of July came to an end. Have had a year and a half of precipitation since the, the hard part is that it starts raining between 430 and 6. My days start between 11 if I'm pushing it and noon, don't mind going to 8 pm and would if we didn't get that damn 20 minute shower that soaks everything.
Rained all day here also. Figures soon as harvest starts it starts to rain.
We`ve had a wet 6 years now. I think it was in 2010 that farmers had to hook their grain trailers behind a 4 wheel drive tractor to get in and out of grain fields. Those big tractors were also needed to pull the combines out of the mud holes as well.

I`m not a morning person either, I`d rather start later in the morning working well past supper into the evenings.
I was hyperactive most of my life and long days were part of the routine Morris. When I was buying and selling commercial furniture it wasn't unusual for me to put in 2 or 3 36 - 40 hours days in every week. Did my own warehousing, gutted out and set up hotels at night and reflashed restuarants over 2 nights. It was a natural trade for me, thought I was having heart problems but it turned out my lungs were shot.
When I moved here and changed trades, 12 hours a day of concrete and landscaping was a breeze. Woke up at 430 without an alarm, didn't go to bed until 1am. Took a stroke to slow me down and that was 4 years ago almost to the day. Starting the day now takes 3 hours, my body needs to wake up. I don't dare talk on the phone before 11 cause it just isn't meant to happen. Takes a cup of coffee and a hour of o2 to get ready for my inhalers and then it's an hour of side effects from the steroid combination.
Long term, 20 year+ friends and I get a laugh out of it, strangers get frustrated as all hell. But all in all, it plays into my attitude quite well, so it's easy for me to put up with it, except when it rains in the middle of 'my' day for 8 weeks. lol
Wow Perry, I`m glad my problems are minor compared to your`s. A bit of lower back plus now this cold that keeps hanging but so far no meds and no major health issues.
My father died of the same thing as this at 56, but he did a lot of drinking, smoked a pack a day and did squat for exercise. The exercise program is easy, walk 20 miles a week and do something that involves some medium lifting and you'll stay ahead of the game. Over doing it, exessive heat and -20c are bad, sitting on the couch doing nothing is a death sentence. As long as I stay busy every thing is good, just wish my doper bum brother would have gotten this like he was supposed to, but he screws up every thing. Lol
Darlene down the street is 75, weighs 85lbs and has MS. She's Canada's oldest MS survivor. Every day possible she is outside working in her yard, still pushes the lawn mower and you got to be fast with the shovel when it snows as she shovels her walkway still. She'll let you help but she demands that she does a lot of the work herself. Now that there is a junkie remover active in the hood, all our seniors come out to walk and work their yards. We got ourself a lot of healthier 75+ seniors on our street. My grandpa made it to 94.
Little progress to report (no pics at the moment).
Spent some quality time with the 4x4 on the weekend.
- Pressure washed the whole truck (undercarriage was a muddy mess, now it's fairly clean)
- Located my rear brake line leak
- Bought new fittings and bleeders for the whole brake system
- Got the truck braking with the front discs only (rear needs lots of work)
- Found out I have a broken rear drum on the driver side, so the rear brakes will remain unused until I have time to replace
- Replaced the front brake bleeders... one was snapped off in the caliper ...I got it out with some heat and some patience (luckily)
- Bled the brake system
- Replaced my valve cover gaskets
- Put in some fuel
- Took her for a drive around the city
Wow is this truck LOUD without an exhaust system. Needs a tune-up because the carb bogs down under throttle, but she runs! And also stops now too!
Gotta work on the rear electrical system because I have no rear working lights. Cab and box swap are likely to come soon because it's getting cold out!!!
Hope you're all doing well. Might start a new build thread for the 4x4 soon.
Darlene is a real inspiration Perry, hopefully I can be as active when I`m her age.
Thanks for posting pictures of the Arthur Gerry, I haven`t gone to many car shows this year so it was a real treat. That blue 56 M100 was my favorite but they all are were nice and some were different from what I`ve ever seen around here. Nice to see the older ones Ford powered.
Hello Aaron, nice to hear about the progress on your 4x4, it`ll be a nice driver when you are done. You had better luck than I do with that caliper bleed screw, I usually have to replace the caliper when that happens to me. I used to like trucks on the loud side but not too loud. It's starting to get cold here too, feeling like fall more every day. I`m looking forward to your new build thread.
A good evening back at you John, it`s a cool one here.
finally pulled the trigger and my new John Deere 3038E with loader and forks should arrive at my place later this week. TractorData.com John Deere 3038E tractor information
Nice little tractor Morris, bit of a torque monster and its not a 2 cylinder, small fuel tank so I guess its for the front 40 and not the back 40.
Darlene is an Estevan farm girl, tough as nails and stubborn as a goat.
All the vehicles I've owned and not 1 has been a 4x4, pretty much everything I've ever driven has been a dually 1 or 5 ton.
Kind of on the truck search again as my f250 doesn't have that high a gvw and doesn't drive worth a damn with a load on it.
It`s diffidently for the front 40, way to tiny for the back 40.
No wonder Darlene is as tough as nails, she is from Sk.
How heavy a load do you need to haul, could you use a trailer or are you working in tight areas?
