Think most people kill the drone by going with the delta flow series.
Im suprised how loud your exhaust is, in the cab.
I have true duals, no cat and generic turbo mufflers and at cruise its like a stocker and when accelerating its still tame...am using an X pipe though.

I had my back glass wide open. I figured with the windows shut the camera wouldn't pick it up very well. It's a lot quieter in the cab with the window's closed. The only annoyance is the drone at higher RPM's. Even then, with the AC on and the music playing, you don't notice it nearly as much. I wish I had ran my muffler further back, toward my tailgate.
My truck sounds like a stocker while cruising, with all the windows down, back window wide open.
I thought about getting two 50 series delta flows to replace my turbos mufflers to give it a little more bark at idle and acceleration but ah, I dont care that much anymore, pretty content.
what is delta flow? if i wana hear it inside what do i run?
Delta flow is a line of flowmaster mufflers, they are slightly quieter than the regular versions.
Yeah. From what I hear everyone say, you just can't make a 300 loud without it being annoying. I was going to go today and add some pipe to make mine quieter.
Dang it! I know turn downs after the muffler(s) or no tail pipe at all, really deepens the tone of the exhaust....kinda like subwoofer theory, slows the sound waves, resonate off bed and ground, blah blah blah, I fought it for a long time, but that last video sounds good enough that now Im looking for my hacksaw. I have no cats, true duals, X pipe, generic turbo tube mufflers. It has a deep idle now, and zero sound at cruise, and to be honest, I cant complain but if I can get it to deepen a little more, well, that would be icing on the cake, Ive been itching to break or do something, so the timing was right.
My question, do you get alot of carbon build up on your underside/axles, etc. or does it seem to disperse fairly well? Where exactly does your muffler/exhaust end? No turn down correct? I dont drive my truck much at all, so if you could tell me how often you drive and your thoughts, Id appreciate it.
well, it was exiting in from of the rear tire with a tip for over a year. all i did was remove the tip and stick the muffler there LOL. the last one was a SI/DO mangnaflow so it had DO to help the tone.
didnt blacken the tire or body any and when i had turndowns years ago before headers it was obnoxious.
Both mufflers end right about where the rear fender opening begins.
Sumbitch is loud, interior resonance is nuts. Id gotten used to no interior sound, especially at cruise, now im constantly reminded theres an engine.
Think im gonna try and run a couple 90's out in front of the tire. I think it sounds great now, as compared to before but, just a wee bit on the excessive side.
I know its not possible to really pick up the low sounds on a cam but I think mine and the magnaflow dual out, sound alot alike. One think I notice, is when I rev mine at idle, it tends to get quieter, I think the X cancells out some noise...although...if you get it up in the rpm, that sucker lets out a crazy shrill of a sound....haha...
I liked the sound of the no pipe(s) after the mufflers but it was loud as hell and the drone at cruise was nuts.
I took two 45degree pieces of pipe and installed them on the end of the mufflers.
The end of the 45degree pipe, when installed, ends about 3 inches in front of the rear axle, and is just below the lower part of the axle tube. Visually, the tire(s) hide the turn downs from the side and from the rear the axle tube covers them enough that its not obvious, which I like.
Wish I woulda done this years ago. The idle has a nice deep tone. From second gear up, when I accelerate you cant really hear much of anything, this is due to the X pipe. However, when I engage the clutch to shift gears, I get this deep feedback from the mufflers...very nice.......at cruise speeds, I do get some drone/resonance in the cab, however, its mild, the drone is extremely sensitive to engine load, if i barely ease off the go pedal, the resonance goes away completely...I toyed around with it, it worked much like an "audible vacuum gauge"...another plus. Wish I woulda done this years ago.
Ok, here is my sloppy, rigged up exhaust... ready to take it to the shop and get the real one put on. Figured I'd post a clip of how the Flowmaster sounds on it, and I have to say, it ain't bad...
- Cat-less
- Flowmaster 40 series (2 into 1) with 3 inch exit, dumping behind rear of the cab.
High idle ~850-900 RPM, Revving to 3400 RPM, and Idle with Load at ~500 RPM
I just love your truck man. I can't get over how good looking those older Ford trucks are. I will say you're not going to get much better sound out of that 300. The way you have it now sounds excellent, I'd leave it be. The only thing you can do to it is make it quieter. If you do want to make it quiet and have duals, run a SIDO Flowmaster 50 series. If you want it loud, keep what you have and have the exhaust shop run duals for you. Or straight pipe it. You can get a kit from Jegs that'll let you straight pipe it. All you'll need is another Y pipe since you have a split manifold.
whats up guys im kinda new to the site... i plan on putting pics of my ole truck up on here soon. its a 89 F-150 300I6 no mods really to the engine 6'fabtech suspension lift and 3'body lift with 38' all terrains, blacked out. . . and i recently cut everything from my Muffler on down off =] so about 2-3 ft of exhaust pipe and also the muffler... i still got 2 cats on there but it sounds pretty good haha.. it gives me a loud roar that i like :P although over 4-5thousand rpms it backfires...but ill never need to go that high
pre egr YF carb, stock intake, efi exhaust, walker downpipe, 2.5" exhaust running out behind the rear wheel with thrush cheapy turbo muffler. Nothing real fancy. It's got 250,000 miles on it, so maybe it's aged like an old acoustic guitar, lol.
Maybe with the bronco wheelbase, the pipe length is pretty short, and the sound is affected by that?
