Well for starters, are there any such animals as mechanical gauges that can be converted to a digital readout? Does not seem likely to me, as a truly accurate oil pressure guage actually flows oil to the gauge, temperture gauge has a copper tube and so on.

I know they have digital systems out there which read mechanical information, through magnetics of some sort. But, I've never looked into a gauge setup for it.

Would be kinda cool, though.

I'll bet with a half a million members here someone will stumble across this thread and have a link to somewhere that has what would work.

Agreed. And, now that I think about it, it HAS to be possible. I mean, they measure everything from flow rates to pressures of gasses, fluids, etc. all the time on piping. And, now many of those applications are using digital readouts. My guess is there would have to be some pretty high tech devices (microprocessors, etc) involved so they would be as accurate as possible. Especially if it deals with temps.

And, with that said, I'll be they're a PRETTY PENNY.

The ash tray replaces the ashtray block off plate that has that trash hook.

Beerstalker: My apologies...I wasn't aware Chris & Mike wanted just the ash tray only.
No problem NumberDummy, this thread got a little off track when they asked about the ash tray so it was easy to get confused.

I originally posted about the cupholder and I suggested he buy the parchment one because it is much cheaper than the prarie tan. I gave him the part number for it and suggested that if the color difference bothered him too much it would be pretty simple just to paint the plastic. ($10 can of spraypaint to spray a $60 cupholder is a lot cheaper than buying the $160 prarie tan cupholder). I also linked to my gallery that has instructions with pictures on how to replace the old style cupholder with the new style one in a 99 Super Duty. That was in this post.

That is where they saw the old style ash tray below the cupholder that was replaced with the trash hook. They asked me for part numbers for it, but Ed's site doesn't give the part numbers when you look stuff up through the parts breakdown. I was only able to relay the prices of what it would cost. That was in this post.

Now the thread seems to have gone off on another tangent about gauges While it is a neat idea, I think that location is too low and out of the way for gauges. I want to be able to see them easily without really taking my eyes off the road. That is why I love my Dashhawk on the A Pillar.

When I bought my 99 SD, the cupholder was broken. The piece on the bottom that connects the front ears to the rear was broken. A little bit of plastic epoxy and some heat shrink, and it has worked flawlessly for almost a year.

That was my problem exactly and I did pretty much the same thing. However you connect the broken arm it has to have some give to it, so that is why I used that flexible super glue stuff. It is like silicon with super glue strength that allows it to stretch and return. Mine is working like new now also and no one knows but you and me.........LOL
