96 F150 dashboard

I need to know if the dashboard of a 96 F150 is all in one piece or not. The soft part that runs from the radio across the glove box is cracking severely. Can I get just this one part or have to buy whole dashboard? I also know that I could probably just put a cover over it.

Ideas or suggestions on how to fix the cracks welcome.

Thanks!
Cecil

I’m not sure if it is of not.
Take a trip to the local junkyard and see if you can find a replacement dash. Start taking it apart, and you will find out if it is separate or not, and if you break something accidentally its not your truck. You will also learn how to take the dash apart from the junkyard truck, so you don’t wreck anything on your truck when you take it apart.

The "soft" plastic is a panel on the hard plastic dash. It's just a piece on the main piece. It cane be removed, but it doesn't use conventional bolts, I had mine far enough away that I can see how it's installed on my '93 F-150. It may be orderable. You would have to stop at a dealer's parts department for it.

I have the exact same problem with my 95. It really bugs me when the truck is in good shape, but this crack is on the dash.
I have been looking for a cover for it, but no luck yet.

Lallen: I have a small crack, just beyond the "soft" plastic on my '93's dash. It's very small and only noticable if your right above it. Usually dash cracks are due to immediate climate changes. If you ever find a good fix, give me a holler, will ya?

My 95 Ford manual says that all you have to do is remove the glove box, and remove the radio to gain access to the nuts that hold the padded dash on. In the manual it looks very simple and straight forward. My dash just started cracking too and I will soon replace it. Let us know if anyone's done it out there.

Since freakin punk theifs decided to smash two of my windows, scratch my truck steal my CD player and in the process totally wreck the dash panel you are talking about in my 96 ford I have some info. I went to the local ford dealership and they printed of the parts diagram sheet of the instrument panel and it is in fact one piece and is part number 04282 it looks like from the diagram it is held on in six places now whether it is screwed on in all six places or some of them are just clips I can't tell from the diagram.

If you're talking about the passenger side pad that's above the glovebox, my local ford dealer said it can't be ordered anymore.

Before I decided to build a homemade dash, I repaired mine using a vinyl repair kit. This contains various goop in different colors, which you smear on the crack, put the little included pads over it, then iron it on "low" using an ordinary shirt iron. Don't let your wife see you. The repair was visible, but not terribly obvious. My pad split somewhere else that same year, so I ended up going to Jo-Ann Fabrics and buying some vinyl, wrapping it tightly, and using epoxy to attach the vinyl on the back. Then attached it, and it looked pretty good even though I couldn't find vinyl to perfectly match my interior. Pretty close though.

You could also wrap it in black vinyl, to match the trim across the width of the dash. Or do what my friend did - he has a dark navy interior, and wrapped his dash pad in a blue plaid, as well as the black across the width trim pieces. So he has some blue plaid in there too. Sounds strange by description, but if you saw it in person you wouldn't immediately go "yuk".
