Brake system warning light is burned out. This is a dashboard light on the left side of the dashboard. How do I remove the socket so I can replace the bulb? Thanks!
According to the pic in the truck parts catalog, the brake pressure differential valve warning lamp is located on the far left side of the dash, below the ignition switch.
Behind the bezel/lens combination is a coil spring, then the bulb socket.
Perhaps the bulb is not damaged/dead. It is a system failure circuit for braking. Is there a way to electrically test the bulb without removing the socket? Is there a wire in the engine compartment at the brake actuator pressure valve? Can I disconnect it at that point and apply 12vdc to test the lamp?
I suspect if the brake warning bulb is burned out its because it was probably lit up for a long time prior to burning out thus, a good probability that the pressure differential valve spool in the valve body assembly is shifted off-center.
If so, the spool will need to be recentered to restore normal brake function, after the bulb is replaced (assuming after the bulb is replaced it immediately lights up and stays lit with the ignition in the Run postition).
