If you get either of the kits, get it from here:
Oregon Performance Transmission, Inc.: Shift Kits
(scroll all the way down).

The Tugger is $95, and the kit Mike put in is $65.

There are quite a few mods on the Main VB done with the Tugger that aren't done with the other kit. I'm hoping MarkKovlasky shows up and lets us know what what kind of difference it makes. I will say this, I'm very happy with how it turned out, so I don't regret the extra $30.

Just a quick thanks to everyone who help out on this post, with your direction I was able to do the tugger kit and seems to work very good. I have not pulled with it yet. The directions and the video leave something to be desired (well to me anyways), but still managed. This kit is workable but does take time and patience......(especially with the steel *****)....Thanks again
Bryce

I drive a 94 full size bronco 5.8/e4od. my valvebody in the tranny looks similar to the original posters writeup. I bought the same kit but havent installed it yet because of the lame instructions that came with the kit as shown. i could probably assume the solenoid pack is the same also. I will look back thru my kit but i dont recall seeing any drill bits.

to the original poster would you go with a larger bit for the holes you drilled in the accumlator valve body and if so how big/bit size? i tow an rv with by bronco occasionally but more often use the rig as a wheeler. sorry for the open questions i just want to do this type thing once if possible.

Did you buy the Tugger or the regular HD2? My Tugger kit came with two bits. I went close to the largest size in the range for my engine, and am very happy with it. From feedback I've heard, you want to go on the large size. But that's on our diesel engines. Not sure how it would work out on the 351.

The instructions give you a size range in decimal forum, along with the recommendation for each application, or at least they did on my kit. If you don't have that part of the instructions let us know, and someone who still has theirs will tell you what the recommended sizes are for different engines. I'd recommend drilling yours according to their guideline starting with the smaller size. You can always drill the hole larger later if needed. Kind of hard to make the hole smaller later on.

As for directions, Mike's thread here is a great one. I'd also recommend going to Transgo's website and watch their install video for the install on the E4OD. It won't show drilling the plate or VB, but it does show the removal and most of the spring replacement.

Then look for the E40D/4R100 video under Ford. It's a large file, so a high speed connection is advised.

Mike covered that well earlier in this thread. You can see where he circled the existing holes that needed to be enlarged. They also don't cover drilling the VB, but that's not difficult either.

Make sure you follow Mike's advice about the cardboard or drop cloth. The tranny won't quit dripping while you do this, and it's not as clean as the video makes it seem. You can also just remove one valve body at a time to do the mods, instead of pulling them all out at once. Make sure you've got some rags and about 5 or 6 cans of brake cleaner.

yea i have already done the filter/fluid change but got spooked when i opened the Transgo box. after re-reading Mikes posting its pretty clear except for the bit sizes being in decimal form. would be nice if they were in fraction form. also how deep do you drill?

I think most of us have that thought when we first open the box. After watching the video and reading Mike's post, it no longer seems like such a challenge.

For the separator plate that comes in the box, you'll just want to enlarge existing holes with a drill bit. For the VB, you'll drill from the outside into one of the round chambers in the VB. Don't forget to debur any holes that are drilled. Make sure to read this thread again now that you've watched the video. Things make much more sense once you've seen it.
