It's not the best advert for the XLS, that I've seen, but it does show what it looked like. https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...=98772&width=2 I remember when I was a boy admiring a 1982 Flareside XLS exactly as pictured in the ad. Nothing like these old trucks to get the blood pumping.

I got all the interior trim painted even the floor to ceiling trim, here are a few shots of my work. I had to do a lot of sanding to get all the old nasty flaky plastic off.
I have two 84's and they both had Custom on the panel above the radio and on the fender badges. I changed the radio panel out to a plain one and removed the fender badges, in hopes of finding decent XLT trim. no luck so far.

The Custom name wasn't used on any Ford Pickup sold in America between 1982 and 1986, so if your 1984's have/had the Custom moniker it's not original. Those pieces came from a 1980 or 1981.
Ford Dropped the Custom in 1982 and brought it back in 1987, and then dropped it again, brought it back in 1992 and dropped it again in 1993.
Same thing happened to the Ranger name. Ford dropped the Ranger name for the F-series in 1982 when the name was moved to the brand new Ranger small pickup.
And finally the Explorer name was dropped for the 1987 and later F-series, the Eddie Bauer made it redundant.
Yeah your probably right. This truck has been repainted, and has mis-matched mechanical parts too. Also i found a truck with the Texas/Oklahoma package. Does anyone know anything about these? Was it just a dealer option? Were they specially equipped? I dont know the exact year of the truck, except it's an 83 up.
I found some XLT interior pieces in a wrecking yard, the pieces that go behind the seat at the corners were discolored and "chalky" on the surface. Is there any way to clean these up? How well does the spray can interior dye work? What would the best thing to use to clean these panels up to redye?
