Hey I was just wanting to know if anybody knows how to remove the chrome windshield trim without taking the windshield out? The chrome trim is in the parts truck I have an I was wanitng to use the trim on mine.
not sure on the 74's, but the later trucks with the narrow trim uses a special gasket which is different from the plain one . i believe the wide trim is the same way and you will need the gasket too so removing the windshield is necessary. Maybe some one will come along that has the older truck and knows for sure
ok yea on this one its the wide chrome trim on the windshield. I thought maybe you could get a tool in there an work the chrome trim out since it is in the groove in the weatherstriping.
If you want to salvage the windshield and trim, your best bed is probably to cut the gasket. Getting the trim to slide in, or out of the gasket when it is installed is almost impossible. I actually broke a brand new windshield attempting to salvage a new gasket and windshield with wide stainless trim one time.
The windshield is in the parts truck. I am just wanting the wide chrome trim from it to use in mine when I replace the windshield in mine vs buying the chrome trim for it. The chrome trim on the parts truck is in great shape I am wanting to add some chrome to mine an get it looking good.
Remove the center piece and get a flat screw driver and put under the end of the chrome. Pull straight up and it should come out. Thats how I done it on my parts truck. It might not be the right way but every piece came out perfect. Scott

I just removed mine this afternoon. I did essentially what you say. I used a block of wood as a heel and a bit of oil in the groove to help allow the chrome to come out easier.
Ray, if you are going to get rid of the wide chrome, let me know. If its in decent shape I'd be interested.
Mercy, no, "Get rid of it" I am stripping the truck for a paint job.
Actually, that trim is quite common in some of the local 'junk yards' in this area. I would think it would still be common most places unless they've crushed all this series trucks.
I have a 75 F250 2wd that I got last summer. The windshield gasket was very cracked and deteriorated. I had the windshield guy that services my company's rigs try to put in a new gasket and then put the wide chrome back in. After 3 hours he had 1/3 of it in and gave up. I finally found a shop near here that the guy has been doing windshields sine this truck was new. He said the trick is you have to put the chrome into the groove on the new gasket beore installing the gasket. He said for me to find a good quality gasket or he wouldn't even attempt it. I bought a made in USA gasket from Dennis Carpenter and the guy said he didn't know you could buy that good of a gasket anymore for these old truucks. He put it all in for me and it looks great. The lesson I learned is to not look for a good deal and risk your chrome that is not replacable. Also I paid about $200 too much between two guys doing it and the first guy buying a cheap import gasket I had to pay for and pay the second to cut it out to get the right one in.
So just go with a windshield gasket from Dennis Carpenter an not from NAPA or Advance Auto? An what did the gasket from Dennis Carpenter cost an how long did it take to get it in?
I cant find my D/C book, but LMC has the Windshield rubber for $39.95 or you can buy the 5 piece kit for $149.95. The kit has 1 hood cowl seal, 1 windsheild seal, 2 door weatherstrips and 1 rear window seal. I havent bought any rubber off of them yet so I cant tell you that they will fit perfect. somone may post if they have bought this from them. I have bought chrome off them and so far I'm pleased. They take 2-4 week days to get them to you. I'd say D/C would be close to the same price. So I guess its up to you who you want to buy from. You could put a post up and see what guys has bought rubber from either place that way you could hear who was pleased and who wasnt and from what company they bought from. Scott
The Carpenter part number is D3TZ-1003110-E
Cost $110.00 I think it was delivered in about a week.
I've ordered a few things from this site and found the bigger more substantial items have been good quality with no problems...
however, the gas cap I ordered was a FRAM cap...not a Ford cap...that didn't match the design which I returned with no problem but the left and right vent window handles were in packages marked left and right but both right handed. Too small of an item to mess with sending back.
