When I was at the junkyard today I was searching for some trim and all the trucks I seen don't have any, they came factory with just the little bit of plastic around the belts but nothing going all the way up and down. or have the carpet on the back cab wall. My truck says its an XL what does that mean more Xtra luxury?
Options for the XLT were things like the map lights, map pockets, cloth door inserts, chrome trim, wood grain dash, different seat cloth, carpeted floor, PW, PL, CC, buckets seats with a center console. I'm sure there's more, but even if you had an XLT trim truck doesn't mean you would have all that stuff. You could probably even get some of that stuff on an XL truck as well. I have an XLT truck and it hardly had any of that stuff. I have since added most of it though.
My 83 XLT one-owner only has carpet on the floor areas. I've heard of it on the door bins, but mine came from the facory only on the floors.
XLs were in the middle between the top of the line XLT and the base model Custom. There's alot of misconceptions about XLT contents because most XLTs were pretty well optioned. XLT was a TRIM level...offhand included carpet, woodgrain, soft headliner, attractive cloth and vinyl seats, dash ID, door bins, wider interior mirror, exterior moldings, brushed stainless tailgate trim. Do a search...I've described it more fully previously. As a side note, my neighbor bought a RC XLT in 83, I bought a SC XLT. You would assume the front seat would be the exact same seat, but it was amazing...the SC seat had alot more padding.
Aftermarket carpeting will never be as nice as the factory molded stuff.
There is a metal strip that goes across the top under the rear window and it's held on by 3 or 4 screws and the floor to ceiling panels that cover the seat belt retractors.
You can't just put them in either without putting in the upper piece over the back window, the side piece over the door openings, and a headliner. It won't look right (unfinished).
[quote=uncle.stosh;6000259]Only XLT's had the floor to ceiling trim pieces and the back carpet.
Both of my trucks are only XL's, and they have all the trim around the back window and around the doors and all the way up by the seatbelts, they did'nt come with carpet on the back wall, but I added that myself.
my dash bezel says XL on it. My truck has the trim for the seat belts all the way up, carpet on the back, and use to have cruise control but i removed it.
