what carb is this ?
it has a 223 straight 6
couple of questions
the valve cover only has 2 bolts on the top, does this mean it's an earlier engine?
also, it has a brand new carter carb fitted but i think it's the wrong one,
the numbers on it are:
0 1736 (i think)
model RBS
on the side of the base it has a funny symbol then 8A3765
thanks,
neil

The 223 head is the same from 1954 thru 1959. The head and valve cover changed in 1960.
It's possible only the head has been changed, not the entire engine.
The original carburetor would have been either a Holley 1V or a Ford 1V.
What you carb is...I don't know, the numbers from the carb you posted don't appear in the truck parts catalogs. A picture might help ID it.
it's a carter RBS carb,
as for the engine,
i'd like to find out more about it,
the numbers on it are:
48 E 2
EBP-6015-E
tell me what other numbers to find on it,
many thanks,
neil

The 1961/67 Econoline's with 170 engines used a Carter 1V, as did 1968/72 Econolines & F100/350's with 240 or 300 I-6's.
I still couldn't find any refs for the numbers you posted in the Ford parts catalogs.
Studebaker used Carter RBS carbs, but I couldn't find those RBS numbers in my Studebaker parts catalogs, either.

EBP-6015-E = The bare block casting number used on 1954/59 223's.
Is your truck RHD?
Trucks sold in the UK, Europe and elsewhere may not use the same vintage engines that were used in the US and Canada.
at least i know what engine i have in,
just need to try and get the relevant parts to put it back to column change now, i can't find the actual lever/rod listed anywhere, (the bit that goes into the collar on the steering column),
all i can find is the collar and the ****,
thanks again for the info,
