disk brake conversion question??

I have a 65 ford f100, I am going to do a disk brake conversion. My question is, I have a 82 econoline 100 van will the spindles fit my 65 beams? I know that 73-79 disk parts will work, The 82 van caliphers, rotors, bearings, races, and seals are the same part numbers as a 79 ford truck. I crossed the #'s out on the napa website. But, my main questions is will the spindles fit my beams if I use 65 kingpins?? Thanks

I did the disk break swap on my 65 and I will tell you right now it is a whole lot easier to remove the entire I-beam and not mess with swapping the spindles. Most times in order to remove the king pins you have to press them out, and in order to do that you have to remove the axle. That is why it is quicker to just swap the whole axle.

If the spindle crosses over to the same thing as a 79 F-series pickup then you should be OK to use the whole thing. You will then need the booster and master cylinder from the pickups as i am not sure if they used the same thing on the vans.

Look under the van at the axle, if it goes all the way over to the frame rail it should be the same axle. The 1980 pickup with twin I-beam axle the ends of the axle attach under the cross member and NOT on the frame rail is it did from 65-79. The 1980 up pickup also uses ball joints and not king pins.

I hope this helps you out on your project. Let me know if you need any more info on the swap.

Thanks ,Jeff I have no way to cross the spindle over. I will look and see if the van has kingpins or joints. I will check it out a little better tommorrow. My plan was to find a 73-79 parts truck, but I have the van in the field and it free.

An Opinion

*****, There are so many more parts needed than just spindles, looking at the van is not a good choice.

I recommend buying a donor 73-79 harvesting the parts, sell what you don't need to recoup your donor purchase, and you will have everything including a power steering upgrade.

When I go to the parts counter and speak to the number dummy there about below the chassis needs, I ask for 76 parts. It keeps things simple.
