dpf deleters in CA

so.. the big question.. has anyone in CA deleted there dpf? i know how to, with the dpf delete pipe and tuner. but CA is one of the only states with a 10,000 fine for removing the damn thing! my milage is not "diesel like" and the truck is way to quiet!! so im wondering.. what are the chances of a highway patrol man or cop actually knowing what a dpf is, or being able to tell that mine is missing?? what do u guys think.. oh and i saw a guy with stacks on is 08 today, so i guess some one is gettin away with it lol

Saw a mobile CHP smog check unit set up this week in Riverside and yes, they had a truck in line for a check. Maybe just a visual, I wasn't going to stop and ask.

$10,000 fine!!!???
I don't have the magazine in front of me, (Diesel Power?) but I just saw a switch activated cutout that goes into the exhaust before the DPF. Nice setup for racing applications they say. Hit a switch and the butterfly door opens to exhaust the gases before the DPF. Get back off the track and close the port to run exhaust through DPF again.

As to your question; Most of the cops I know are VERY interested in all kinds of vehicles, so they generally ask questions of the driver when they see something different. While we don't have emissions testing in FL. I do know that some FHP will give tickets for certain flagrant alterations. I don't think they are 10large though.
I think you would be taking a big risk in CA my friend.

If memory serves, you are looking at a $7500+ fine in EVERY US STATE for tampering with emissions control equipment (it is a federal offense, by the way). FWIW

It's a whole different ballgame with the DOT boys. Kinda like the game wardens or boat cops.

i dont like these answers lol.. i have to make this truck louder (and get better milage). that exhaust switch sounds like it could be the answer. for now i think im just gonna run a 5 inch stack from the dpf back and have it exit in front of the rear tire, and a s&b intake. hopefully it will beef it up a little

Mobil smog check is just like a DUI check point. Every so many vehicles get checked out or all do. Do you feel lucky today? And yes the fines are federal, doesn't matter what state you are in.

Those are saftey checks NOT MOBIL SMOG Checks , NO SUCH THING.
Police,CHP,.. ect have no intrest in working a smog station.

All worries are B.S , There are no Smog police lurking around. The worst in all my years in C.A is at the street races. And all they can do is give a fix ticket (no charge). take your vehicle to a approved smog station for a check .Period.

The Police , CHP ect are not trained in all the Smog laws its just not true
They can write a fix it ticket and thats it , Period

Do you guys have any idea how much training and testing would have to be added to have Chp , Police whatever to do smog checks on the side of the road?
The laws and vehicles change almost every year . There is NO Money in the Budget for the MIn stuff, let alone A PDF Police task force. No WAY
No Way ,No Way.

They (the gov) Are allowing Nafta trucks to run right in from Mexico with no DOT or SMOG anything.

Passing all kings of scary laws is great. Enforcement is A whole other thing.

If you Don't belive any of this don't, Ask the Police ,Chp, Sherif ,local anybody you want yourself. Ask about All the Smog laws and how many road side smogs they have done . your answer will be -0-.

Also Note :
All Years of Diesel's Are EXEMPT from smog in C.A in the first place .So why would they even be checking for smog on diesels?

Some (dare I say most) people that work at FORD service dept Don't even know what a PDF is and you think johnny law has it figued out.

Can you just see it , "Breaker Breaker This is car 9 ,we spotted a 08 and up diesel with a missing muffler part" were goin to pull him over and check it out.

Now if we could just register our trucks in Mexico all the problems would be solved.

A new program to inspect heavy duty diesel trucks and buses for excessive smoke is underway in California. The inspections, carried out by the California Environmental Protection Agency's Air Resources Board (ARB), will be conducted at California Highway Patrol weigh stations and other roadside locations which won't impede the flow of traffic.

Mybe this is what was seen as a portable smog check

2008
CA.
Currently, smog inspections are required for all vehicles except diesel powered vehicles, electric, natural gas powered vehicles over 14,000 lbs, hybrids, motorcycles, trailers, or vehicles 1975 and older.
