uh, I don't know....all it takes is a look under the truck to see if there's a "cannister looking thing" or not. I don't think there as dumb as we hope...the mobile DOT guys are always set up around here. What's the worst that would happen if Mr. DOT looked under and saw nor CAT/DPF on your new 08?? I don't know, I'm askin'

I'd be afraid of a big fat fine... We were recently pulled over by the CHP. I was riding passenger in my friends straight pipe dodge. The cop already had someone pulled over BUT when we went by he said he couldn't hear himself think. So he let that guy go and chased us down. Looked under the truck, saw the straight pipe, and gave him a fix it ticket for modified exhaust. I'll try to get the ACTUAL CVC #, but there was NO humor at all. The CHP also said they're cracking down on diesels with straight pipes. Although he never mentioned anything about DPF's.

I will maintain my muffler, has any one deleted the green combo and left the muffler on?
Your example is stellar...the noise gave it away, so i'm thinking leave the muffler on....there aint much to the 08 muffler anyway.

The 6.4 is capable of meeting 2010 emissions without major changes. If Ford has a differant engine in 2010 it isn't because the 6.4 can't meet emissions.

Please all you guys that are worried and scared and asking permission to mod your truck "Leave your truck alone". You are Right it is not legal and you will get locked up and get a big fine so don't do it. Everybody knows the law is Allways right , And ALL Laws have to followed to the letter. I hear that they are starting a new PDF Task force that will come to your house and check your truck also on every freeway on and off ramp.
They are forgetting about all the murder's and other small petty crime to focus on diesel PDF's here in L.A . So look out.

not to be smart azz, but I wasn't asking permission, and if this violation carries a first time lock up penalty, things are really f'd up.. . Come to your house...like were moonshiners? methlabs or got sex slaves in the basement....sheeeeeit....that's invasion of privacy, afterall you CAN have the DPF delete and if just setting in your drive, then why bother. Get this, Gov't wants diesel to be the fuel of the future, yet it's moved to the top of the price scale....they've mandated filters that reduce mpg and now there the gestapo!! I'll just sell the damn thing.

This might sound far fetched but it's getting close to the truth. While PARKED in a permit only parking lot (SNO-Park), the CHP came through and inspected all of our rigs. I got cited for no front license plate. Others got cited for front tinted windows, no front license plates, incorrect safety chain installation, and/or no mud flaps. It was RIDICULOUS! Not a nice thing to come back form a good weekend of riding and find yellow tickets everywhere!! Granted, there were no exhaust citations!

I don't live in California but I was wondering if the parking lot you speak of is private property? If so, I think I would put up a fight.

I have been told by cops that if a property is open to the public then it doesn't matter if it's privately owned.

I would still fight! For all the cop knows, the tag was removed while parked to prevent theft or for that matter, stolen. It's not any of his/her business what the truck has wrong with it until it enters a public street.
I have a good friend who is a captain with the local police here that I'm going to ask as well just out of my own curiosity.

For the $25 dollar fine, it wasn't worth my time to fight it. To answer your previous question, it was a Parking Lot, with public access, that requires a permit to use. But the State owns the land, so technically is it public. Regardless, I agree with you that I could've removed it to prevent theft while I was parked. I was MAAAAAD when I got it!

Man am I glad I don't live in California. PA doesn't require smog for diesels (YET). That will probably be the next thing. Cops around our area only go after the kids with the crazy lighting all over their cars or trucks.

Isn't the smog law that DPF's are required for a Federal law, encompassing all states...?
