I posted mine a while back - but it has changed a little since then. Some pretty big changes will come in the future...

Like some of the previous ones - mine needs some paint too.

This is an old topic that I had never noticed before, because I didn't join this site until July 2010. Lots of great looking trucks! Here's mine, a '79 F350 Supercab Lariat, 400, C6:

You can see more pictures in my gallery: Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums - NorthwestX360's Album: Andy's '79 F350
Plans call for a lift kit and bigger tires eventually.

Great truck, Northwest! I do have a question...where'd you get your nerf bar, and is it stainless, or chromed? I've been toying with the idea of having a set of stainless nerf bars fabbed for my truck, but haven't decided on it yet. If there's a suitable catalog option, maybe I'll go that route.

(sorry for the mild threadjack, there)

Thanks. The nerf bars were on the truck when I bought it (I brought it home in August). I'll go take a close look at them tomorrow and I'll let you know. My guess is that they're chrome plated. I'll try to see if there is a brand name anywhere. The seller gave me a ring binder full of receipts. I'll look through it.

I saw that truck on eBay, are you the one who bought it...?
If you don't me asking, how much did you pick it up for...?

I haven't made it out to the garage yet, but I found some installation instructions in the ring binder. The nerf bars are made by Westin. ( Westin 2009 New Product - ) The instructions say "Application: 1999 & up Ford F250/350/450/550HD Super Duty regular cab, super cab, crew cab." The installation instructions cover the following model numbers: 23-1310, 23-1315 (etc, all increments of 5, up to 23-1335). I did a search on Westin's website, and the part numbers that end with a 5 are black painted steel. Part numbers 23-1310, 1320, and 1330 all say "polished stainless steel." Mine is a single-step, which I found to be part number 23-1320: "E-Series step bar, single step, polished stainless steel. Product features: 3" round tube, series unique step pad design, mount kit included, stainless steel, adds perfect finishing touch to vehicle, lifetime warranty."
The way Westin's website is set up, you have to do a search to get to that part number. However, in their listing of vehicles, the installation instructions are clickable, so here is the link to the PDF installation instructions: http://www.westinautomotive.com/page...ts/75-0917.pdf
Since I'm not not the one who installed them, I don't know if the mounting brackets needed to be modified to fit a '79 truck or not. I'll have to crawl under there and see how they are installed. They seem pretty solid, though. The previous owner put a lot of attention to detail into this truck. Nothing appears to be a "hack job." Well, I take that back. He put lift blocks under the front leaf springs to level the truck, rather than put new springs in. I plan on putting a "real" lift kit on it as soon as I can!

76f350spercamprspeal, most people think I paid too much money for this truck, but I think it was worth it. My logic was, I could buy a fixer-upper and put a lot of money (and time) into it, or I could buy one that someone else put a lot of money into. We all know that you never get the money out of a truck that you put into it when you sell it, and I know by thumbing through my ring binder full of receipts, that the seller took a major loss when he sold it to me. I've been looking for a rust-free '79 F350 4X4 Supercab for years, and I recently had a bit of good luck on the stock market that gave me some "guilt-free" spending money (and no, I'm not a rich guy, I'm just a regular working class dog. In fact, I pretty much emptied the bank account to buy this truck. My job has since taken a slight down-turn, so I won't have any money to put into this truck until next year). The fact that this one's a Lariat that is loaded with factory options was icing on the cake. I wasn't too hip about the flatbed at first, but I've really grown to like it.

1979 F-250 Custom SC 4x4

Nothing fancy but no rust. Just some DC-1's with 285/70-r17 Cooper STT's. I have a D60 to swap in, just need to find the time.

I'm also planning to paint it 2 stage black next summer. It's mostly a tar baby since I use it primarily for towing but I like to take a trip through the woods with my daughter now and then too. Sooooo many plans and so little time....

Thanks for the research...I do appreciate it! I still may go with a fabbed wheel to wheel nerf bar just to be different, as there aren't any out there for our trucks, but it's going to be over 2 grand to make them. I just like the idea of a little bit of protection for the sheet metal from shopping carts, car doors, etc. There's a place here in Spokane that I can work with to get the welding and polish work done, and I'll have to come up with some sort of mounting hardware, which shouldn't be too difficult. Carr sells traction pads for 3" tubing, so I can bolt those onto the polished tube, and have a step at the door and at the bed without that weird middle step that every wheel to wheel bar out there has for newer models with four doors. It's just nice to know that I have options if I need them. Thanks again.

By the way, I'd be in the same boat as the guy that you bought your rig from....I've got WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more invested into Buford than I'd ever see out of him, but the good thing is that I'm taking that truck to my grave so I don't have to worry about it.
