I am doing some maintenance on my 02 supercrew and am getting some conflicting info on Mercon V. I think because most of the discussions are about trasmissions.
If I need to add fluid to the power steering, can I mix Mercon V with Mercon. I am assuming Mercon in currently in the resevoir but all I can find is MerconV.
Also, I want to change the transfer case oil. I thought I could just substitue V for the old Mercon. However, someone told me the new spec is not Mercon V for the transfer case. What oil do I use for the purpose.
--you can mix MErcon with the newer V. for steering or transfer case.
--what was in the transfer case originally was what ever was in the transmission that year.
--i would not mix Mercon and MerconV in the transmission., yours takes the V.
---MERCON V is the new upgrade spec for the older trucks
--standard MERCON will soon be gone, all you can buy is V.
I would follow manufacturer's specs in your manual. Messing around is not a good idea. I swapped out all my fluids when I bought my truck and heard some conflicting info. Just do it by the book. There are a lot of idiots out there who might tell you it's OK to play, but I don't mess with fluids.

For older vehicles, the manual has been superseded since Mercon has been discontinued and has been replaced by Mercon V for ALL applications that previously required Mercon.
The autozone here still sells Mercon. My book specifically indicates NOT to use Mercon in place of Mercon V. Whether you can use Mercon V instead of Mercon I don't know.
i said MERCON V is the upgrade to Mercon. the standard stuff will be out of stock by this year. EVERYTHING up grades to MERCOn V. The only thing you need to remember is not to put the old MERCON into a new truck TRANSMISSION needing MERCON V. The steering and transfer case really dont care. thats all.
