Hi,
I have a 2001 v10 4x4 and am going to change the transfer case fluid tomorrow, Is it ok if i use Mercon V? I did a search on this forum and got mixed results. From my understanding originally Ford said not to use mercon v in the transfer case but then discontinued mercon and told everyone that mercon v should be used? I would just go out and buy some full synthetic ATF but i have 2 quarts of mercon v already sitting in the garage and would like to save myself a fer dollars if i can!
I had a 2006 Ranger and replaced all fluids with Royal Purple.
Great results!
or...
buy some more "Mercury Mayhem" and have at it!
I honestly don't think that it matters.
The original transfer case fluid was Mercon, now it is Motorcraft Transfer Case Fluid XL-12, since they discontinued Mercon. Most people use Mercon V since it replaced Mercon
