im sure there is some....but its not worh the "weakening" for lack of better word, of the tread....for mud, i wouldn't do it....rocks yes....for mud you litterally want shovels throwing biga$$ "bricks" of mud.....
IF you are only in the mud then the more paddle like the better, but for trails I'd say that some grooving would help more than it would hinder, my .02
