I wouldnt over do it. The most Id ever do personally is take the small lugs out and leave it alone. Remember its going to take power to turn cut boggers. Id think long and hard before I started cutting up a set of boggers. RESEARCH! Pirate and Chucks might be a good place to start because Monsterbaby is the only guy I know of that has/had cut boggers.
I loved my 4.0 but Im not sure even a supercharged one has the torque it takes to keep cut boggers turning in heavy mud. I can feel the strain it puts on george and thats twice the motor.
I hate when I do a mod and Im dissapointed afterwards. Id rather shoot down someones dream than have them do something they'd regret and it cost them later.
So you are saying even tho it will spin all 4 tires now if i cut them it will not? I think it will. Motor is already built. No dyno run, but Desktop est @206.5hp.
Id put a D44 or one of the bad **** upgraded D35s they build for jeeps before I bought the SC but thats me.
Desert,
sorry if Im shooting down everything youre tossin' but like I said Id rather hurt your feelings and give you the right answer than tell you something to make you feel good.
EDIT:
DD is crap for finding engine hp and tq.
205hp (if correct) is probably 140 or less at the tires. Im not doubting you but if you can turn 39" boggers the way you say you can I dont see how the welded TTB can handle the truck.
since youre gunna be making this a pretty custom rig why not go ahead and pull the engine/tranny and throwin in something with more power so you can spin the tires without worrying about whether the 4.0 is gunna get you bogged down or not?

I understand, but is there gonna be that big of difference by taking out several lugs? If so I will leave them alone and just deal with it.
My axle is good, it is already upgraded it is a hybrid 35/44. The weak link on a 35 is the knuckles and long shaft c-clip, already modded. The charger was purchased for only 500 bones. My motor was built for boost, I just couldnt find a chager at time of build, they are rare BBK quit making them when the SOHC motor came out in 01. Already planned it this way.

The 4.0 does not bog, ever. 5.13 gears help out alot. I changed the gears not too long ago from 4.88s. And I love and underdog battle. Always have always will. Check out some of the 10 sec v-6 mustangs, a six can be built, rather cheaply too.
hm, well i dont nkow much about the motors, my old ranger (now dads DD) only had the small 4 cyl in it i think it was 2.3 or 2.5 sumthing like that i guess the 4.0 could be a good engine if built like you say it is, nevertheless should be a fun little rig when its done and the axles are changed and all
Heres what Id do and what I wouldve loved to do to my 96 ranger. Obviously this is the perfect world plenty of $$$ suggestion
Carb'd 347 C4(for size purposes only over C6) D20 Coiled D44-good limited slip/9"-spooled 5.13 gears if its offroad only 4.88s for a street driven/offroad truck.
In a light weight truck like a ranger I think 39s would be OK for the 44/9" in stock form. Good chromo's and joints for the 44 and you'd be golden.
It is fun and will be lots more fun. The main reason I built the 4.0 is b/c my wheelin buddy dropped a 5.0 HO in his Ranger and started talking smack. Doing burnouts and all with only 33's. Well I needed more gear and power anyhow so I worked a deal out with a local shop and we built the snit out of it. Now I embarrass the 5.slow doing posi burns on 38.5's.
thats about what i was thinking when i suggested the motor/tranny swap, id love to have a lightweight truck like a ranger for boggin, one day imma get my dads ranger back and see how hard it would be to do maybe a mildly built say 302 with i dunno wut tranny and a D44/9", thats one day though for now hes hooked on his little 2wd, 25mpg ranger to drive back and forth to work in so, just something to dream about

EFI 408 windsor/c-4 full maual valve body/dana 44hp welded/ 8.8 welded/np203/205doubler. Still use 5.13s and chop the fenders and run 42" TSLs. That is the built sheet for my other truck since I already have so much in the one we were talking about. Would be a shame to junk a 500 mile old motor. And **** away all the $$ and b/s/t aready in it.
those are the plans for which ranger? the 2wd one? that sounds like its gunna be a nasty rig
Yep the 2wd. I need a raise at work. It will take a while. Really I wish I would have bitten the bullet and built the 4wd like that to begin with, but it is wayyyy to pretty to chop up and mutilate. Hardly no miles on the truck already had a **** load of money put into it when I got it.
