i don't see whats crazy about it, drive passively, smooth movements and don't leave the cruise on so it kicks down all the time. 9-12...now you're comparing me to a dodge... that just hurts!!!
Oh man no way im comparing you to a dodge lol lots of people with fords only get that towing
I have heard that the 4.6 with the right gears do fairly well on gas!!! I have heard the the 302 with a 5 speed and 3:08 gears get mid to high 20's!!
I know my 5.4 when pulling my fifth wheel only gets 8-10mpg but that with a 8500lb trailer behind. My dad's 6.0l get's 12mpg when pulling his fifth wheel and it's only 500lbs heavier than mine.
i've heard that about the 302/5sp/3.08 combo too. i know a tech that used to work at ford had a reg cab/short box/4.6l-5sp and he would get 28 on the highway. in a small little truck like that, i don't see any reason to doubt it.
thats a huge trailer to tow with a gas engine, imagine those numbers with a headwind?? i think i'd seriously consider a v10 if i needed to tow occasionally. they've proven reliable, low maintenance, and from what i hear and read, the mileage when towing isn't that far off the new diesels(any of them) or the smaller gasser.
I'm not sure what to get next!! I was thinking the new half ton with the diesel, but with diesel being more than gas and the higher cost to purchase a diesel I might just stick with a gas, with more power of course. I guess I got a lot of time to think about it, the '07 should last a while! A superduty with a V10 has crossed my mind but I always thought that they where very hard on fuel.
yes both. i've lurked in the v10 forum a bit, they seem to hover around the 10-13mpg mark for everyday driving, 15 being a good high, 8 being a moderate tow.
yeah its a tad worse for everyday driving. similar for towing, but more power/less strain would get my vote for towing. can't have your cake and eat it too until the f150 diesel appears. hopefully before too long...
I really looking forward to the new f150, the six speed auto will make a big difference over the four speed. I would definitely like to see what that diesel and the new 6.2 gas can do if they come out!!
