strictly city i dunno... i get about 275 on 3/8ths or so... the math tells me about 600 or so but i never let it run below 1/2 usually...
thats decent mileage Marlon!! i got 16 hauling my trailer, 2 bikes on it with a nasty headwind both ways... 19.8 going from s'toon to mullengar and back doing about 120 with a headwind as well...
man, you getting 17 with a smaller load and more power makes me real proud of my 'lil 4.6. i know first hand she don't tow as well as the 5.4, but it wasn't too bad.
You got just short of 20 mpg, towing a light trailer, doing 120, with a headwind?
I think ya might need to check your math on that one bud! Otherwise you have about the only 4.6 liter truck in the work that can do that lol.
Do you have the numbers for that? I dont mean to call ya on that, but its very unheard of, and i have browsed a ton of threads on mpg with the 4.6 liter.
If you get 600 km's on a tank in city driving thats pretty amazing. Do you have the 27, or the 30 liter tank in yours?
Well sherm, you have a one in a billion truck then I have never heard of that before, and I know a ton of guys with 4.6 liter trucks. Plus I had one myself.
I know they are good empty, but every one I know, when towing, the mileage gets down there.
My sister and bro in law have a 351 in a 93ish ford that has a 351. They are lucky to get 16 on the highway with it.
We used to have a 86 with a 351w in it. It was a 4 barrel, and a 3/4 ton but it never got even close to 20 with it.
Lots of power though, cant take that away from them!
i didn't think 16mpg towing 3000lbs was too good. i'll repeat... 19.5 was EMPTY. i don't BS about mileage... what does it prove?? i drive without the cruise when towing, that way i can compensate for the mini hills and false flats so the truck don't kickdown a gear. its a 2wd as well which makes a huge difference.
Man sherm your a crazy guy towing 3000 lbs getting 16mpg is very very good most people only get what like 9-12 at best maybe a bit better or even worse not to many people can get 16 mpg towing with a 1/2ton
i don't see whats crazy about it, drive passively, smooth movements and don't leave the cruise on so it kicks down all the time. 9-12...now you're comparing me to a dodge... that just hurts!!!
Go check out what guys have to say about the 4.6 liter when towing in the other forums Sherm, then youd see why some guys are amazed at your towing mileage!
"2 bikes on it with a nasty headwind both ways... 19.8 going from s'toon to mullengar and back doing about 120 with a headwind as well..."
I didnt see you write that you were empty, I didnt go back and read enough i guess haha. I misunderstood ya there. My bad!
