Ugly duckling?

I bought a 1983 F100 a few years back, which I still own.

It's a good dependable truck, but it always strikes me as one of Ford's least inspired designs, from a style perspective.

Most of the trucks of this style seem to rust out horribly, Yet nobody seems to restore them.

Does this style truck have any future as a desired model down the road?

You`ll have a fight on you hands if you call it an ugly duckling in the 1980 - 1986 F100, F150 And Larger F-Series Trucks forum: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum37/
I like the 53-6 & 67-72 the best but these are certainly a good truck too.

I always liked the looks of the 80 - 86 models, I have owned four of them at one time or another and I bought two of them brand new.

I don't think it would be wise to move this thread there

I had it for sale last fall for 2000 bucks, but everybody thought I was out of my mind!

Maybe my opinion has been tainted by others.

Maybe Ill post some pics in my gallery tomorrow and you eighties fans can bring me back around!

It really is a F100, last year for 100's and carburetors I believe.

They had carbs right up untill 87 I believe. 87 was the newer style too.
I dont mind that style, although I do prefer the 87-96(97 hd) better myself.

My 86 F150/302 had EFI and with the over drive auto it got excellent fuel mileage.

i like the 80-86, 92-96(97hd) as well. 87-91 isn't my fav but i like them in 4x4.

i've heard that a well tuned carb'd engine can get really decent mileage as well...

Wasn`t it the other way round, the Mustang got the truck heads with a boost in power?

The early 80's F100 is a rare truck is it not? IIRC, that's the model with the light-duty components, such as smaller wheels, etc, and basically was deleted once the smaller Ranger was intro'd. Few were sold in comparison to the F150 at that time.

I always thought of them as the least pretty, but I'm starting to like them except kinda.
