When gas hits $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

When gas hits $4.00/gallon---$5.00/gallon---and more, and it will,
what are you willing to give up to pay for it?

Not much left to give up. Frequent dining out at decent restaurants went out at 2 bucks. Travel went out at $2.25 or so. Social life went out the window at about $2.50.

I believe the magic number to be about $4.25 a gallon. $4 will draw all the attention, but $4.25 is where people really cut back on everything.

I drive my Civic & use my V10 once a week just to keep everything lubricated.

I did find a new use for my V10 last week. I put in a new water heater & could not get the old one (22 years) up the outside basement steps. Yes, I did drain the water 1st. That V10 pulled it up so easy & a lot safer for me.

Don't really have much of a choice - I use my truck for work. A guy can only raise prices so much before pricing himself out of the market. I'll just be making a bit less profit.

Never thought a gas can for the lawn mower would take a $20 bill to fill it up.

Since I won't be able to afford it, I'll have to give up work. After that, I won't have any money left, so I'll give up everything else.

was thinking about this this morning. listening to radio this morning a AAA spokesman was quoted " gas on AVERAGE before we even get to the middle of summer will be about $ 3.50-3.60 for 87octane"

premium will be 4 bucks on AVERAGE.

so you no californians and new yorkans will pay close to 4.50-5.00 bucks.

i have 3 and a half years left to pay on the ranger, and honestly having that as an everyday driver gettin 15mpg, when not towing a boat. i dont know how long i can keep it up, i like to drive and im not home much, id probably trade in my truck for an economical car, and then buy a used truck to tow the boat. or trade the truck in for an economical truck. the 4.0 doesnt like to sip the gas

In my world I don't see where we could reduce driving mileage much further. My truck has had the same fuel in it since last summer, use has been kept at minimum. Wife's jeep uses 10 gallons a week. We fuel up, get groceries and whatever else with 1 trip on the weekend.

House is kept at 66-68 degrees an all lights are compact fluorescent. Windows changed to double thermalpane, extra insulation where it could be placed. We sold the boat, 5th wheel goes out 1 week a year. We seldom go out to eat.

Life has gotten real dull and boring. Right where the powerful bobbing heads wants the whole country to be...Work to get enough to work....

Honestly, I think gas prices would have to be well over $5/gallon before anyone cuts back on their gasoline consumption. Unfortunately, in that situation, it will be the lower and middle class working people who have to cut back. The rich upper class with their new SUVs will still buy as much gas as they want, no matter how high the price is, because they can afford it. So, if you think about it, there will always be a market for gasoline no matter how high the price, because there will always be someone who's willing to buy it.

I don't drive my truck as much as I used to so I can fill it up and have it last me a couple of weeks.
My g/f is in home health and gasoline sure takes a toll on her pocketbook even though she is paid mileage.

As for me, when warmer weather gets here for good and the boy is out of school, we will ride the V Star. At 4 bucks a gallon, it will cost about 20 bucks to fill it up.

We don't do a whole lot anyway that we would have to give something up. We seldom eat out anywhere anymore and that's mainly due to our health.

I'm already taking evasive action- going to look at a Ford Courier to replace the Galaxie tomorrow. I hate to give up a plush full size, but need the extra bit of mileage. Courier gets ~30 combined while the Galaxie gets around 25 highway and 8 city.
