It's just not only the gas prices but look at what is made from Petroleum products. If the Food Industry would go back to using glass bottle and jars which are recyclable more so than plastic.Remember when Drinks and Milk came in Glass bottles and you paid a deposit on them when you bought a drink? I made extra money picking up bottles and sorting them by brands to have a little money for school supplies and drinks and candy.

The Auto Industry uses so much plastic now in cars and trucks to get better gas mileage, but in reality my 85 F150 With a FI 302 and AOD Trans will still knock down 20mpg.

The only way to reduce the price of oil is to reduce everything that is made from Petroleum products.

Many people run out and buy a smaller car, or even a hybrid when the prices jump. But you have to use a LOT of gas, even at $5 a gallon to pay for a new car. What I would LIKE to do is have some little POS like an Escort to drive every day in order to save gas, but the (expletive deleted) insurance companies charge almost as much for the 2nd car as they do for the first. Will someone please explain to me (or them) why the insurance should be so high- I can only drive one at a time! I really don't think a car poses much of a threat when it's sitting at home. If I could add a second car for a reasonable fee, (so long as I promise to only drive only one at a time) I could get some little 4 banger for the 90% of the time I don't need a truck.

Maybe you should look into a different insurance company. In the past, I've found that when having a second vehicle added on to my insurance policy, the rates are always lower for the second vehicle. The key is to have your primary vehicle listed as your daily driver; and have the second vehicle, which doesn't get driven as much, listed as pleasure use only.

Another reason why that second car is "almost" as high to insure as the primary car
is that insurance companies don't know which one you're going to drive at the time,
and for what purpose, work or pleasure.

And also, while you're driving one vehicle, maybe someone else is driving the other one.

PLUS, insurance companies make more money when they charge the high rates, for both vehicles.

i remember when gas hit 2 dollars a gallon, i parked my car and rode my bike everywhere. i was darn near militant about it. somedays i rode with a bike jersey that had a middle finger and the words "the middle east, and big oil" on it. now it is like a have given up and just resigned myself to oil hell. i do plan on riding my bike again this year. the year i did it, i only filled my car once from march to august. sure as heck not gonna drive that gas guzzling carbed truck that often once the snow is gone. Dan

Think I'll also start riding my mountain bike, as soon as the snow melts around here to.

Finally....Today.....I heard a couple of talking heads (financial guys) on the radio state that there is absolutely no reason for the high ppb of oil, and the expected increase this summer---none.

Everything you hear and see on TV and the radio about the high price is an excuse....There is not one, single good reason for the ppb ($103 and climbing).......

It's a speculator's playground.....Nothing more, nothing less.

Ok, I'll bite. When gas hits $7 per gallon, E85 and Bio at $5 per gallon (thats what they will cost without be propped up by subsidies) we will become foreign oil non dependent. Isn't that what everyone wants? To be non dependent on foreign oil? That way, we won't have price spikes? The price will just stay high all the time.

Cause everyone will be buying bio and e85 instead of petro based products. I know I would if it were $2 per gallon cheaper. The question is $2 cheaper than what?

yea, but how in the world would we ever produce enough biofuels and food to be independent?

plus all that fertilizer for the corn, it uses natural gas and i know at our prices there is no way everyone will be buying natural gas from here, heck, i think as of now only around 50% of our nitrogen based fertilizer is produced locally.

isn't that just trading one dependency to another?

E85 for the higher cost of food.

I am happy that we have a free market. I hope ExxonMobil's Q1 profits are 18 billion. Don't let em drill, don't let em build larger capacity refineries, you pay what you pay.

BTW how's everyones congressman/women doing as far as living up to the promises they made to you in 08? To me it looks like business as usual, dums (dems) got control of the house and senate, they have delivered zero change to date, and by my score card, everyone is not better off than they were 8 months ago. Just some food for thought.
