No, no state income tax. Hellish property taxes though. DO you guys pay property tax?

I was taking a poke at the libs with that comment, not complementing. Either way, prices of everything is getting obscene.

poke taken
I wish I didn't pay property taxes then I could buy more fuel, but guess I'm one of the lucky ones,I don't really have to be anywhere so I don't burn a lot
But if fuel was at the high prices of a year ago (.80 a gallon less) the average working man could pay a little over 1/3 of his tax bill or 2/3 of a months rent per year or maybe 1/2 his home insurance
But the pain don't end at the pump,it trickles down to everything he buys

Unleaded is $3.10 here as of yesterday. I don't know the exact price of diesel right not but its more than $3.50 a gal.

What really pi$$es me off is when they up the gas/diesel price of fuel they already have in the stations storage tanks. Its one thing to up the price when they get the tank filled, its another to up the price of fuel they got a week or two ago. Just irks me.

Yep, jumped from $3.49 to $3.64 overnight at the local Speedway.

When I ordered the truck last August, diesel was $.40/gal cheaper than regular gas. What the heck happened??

I drove the minivan today instead of the truck. Times are desperate!

In Corpus, Valero and Exxon moved to $3.599 yesterday. I see $4/gal diesel in our not to distant future.

Well in some cases having a smaller car doesn't help that much. CL 600 doesn't really do much more on gas then my truck does on diesel.

I'm thinking I'll buy a mini Cooper, stick it in the back, and have the option of either the truck or the mini for each trip!

Gentlemen,
I would like to let you know what its like up here on a little old piece of suburbia, located right next to NYC. Long Island NY. Not only has fuel prices hit the roof in our wonderful land. But we live in a place where the AVERAGE, small 3 bedroom house on 60x100 lot costs over $450,000. Thats in a middle -income neighborhood, with the average taxes in the 8,000-10,000 per year range. Want a more spacious area , an updated or new home? Well then a trip to the North Shore where there are numerous Multi-million dollar homes on larger properties. Nothing that I can touch in this lifetime. Want something new, then they start at 600 to 700k for something moderate, with taxes starting at 13,000 a year. On top of it add all the stuff that Pupnduck said. Most of my friends have a 300k mortgage or more. Then almost a grand a month just in taxes.......I gotta move..Just to keep my truck.

This is probably the thing that burns me the most-

A few weeks ago, gas was around $3.29 a gallon and diesel was $3.49-3.59 gallon depending on where you went.

Gas gradually dropped 20 cents a gallon. Diesel didn't budge.

Then there was that refinery explosion, and all of a sudden gas is back up to $3.29 and diesel jumped up to $3.75!

I just don't get it.

At the rate things are going, I won't be able to afford to drive my truck. I'm already planning to buy something smaller and cheap to share time with it...right now that's sounding like a pretty good idea.

I don't see how the average Joe on the street can live in that kind of envionment. Wish there was some way to move my house and land there just long enough to sell.

Thats just it...Its harder to be the average Joe up here. When I travel and see what I can get for the money, I want to leave . Pennsylvania, North Carolina, New Hampshire, or anywhere else. Im jealous of anyone with a 3 car garage, or enough land that you can barely see your next door neighbor. Fuel prices just make it that much tougher to stay. For all of you in rural areas, enjoy it, stay out of this god-forsaken rat race. Youll live longer and have less stress.
