That is a fact.

Not quite sure I understand the commodities market but when oil hits a certain price, isn't it for future oil that hasn't even been pumped out of the ground yet? The same with Diesel fuel and unleaded gasoline, those are traded on the market. If I recall, the oil companies don't set the price of oil, or the finished fuel. Commodity traders and middlemen 'jobbers' do.

Duh.

Its just amazing after taxes, high paid executives, high paid workers and everything they can still make over 40 billion profit. Just goes to show that oil costs way more than it has to be.

The stock market and goverment are good at taking simple things and complicating them.

I don't see how demand is higher now in the US than it was in 2000.

Sad thing is that its not because of ULSD refining that diesel is more then gas now. In most european countries, including australia and new zealand, their ULSD is cheaper then regular gas.

Don't forget, the taxes on gasoline and diesel are a percentage not a fixed price per gallon. The more the oil companies charge, the greater the tax revenues for the government; Federal, State and Local.

You're absolutely right. But New York does tack on an 8.375% sales tax on top of everything else. I'm fortunate in that I live 10 minutes from New Jersey. I haven't bought fuel in NY in years. Last Saturday diesel was $3.29 in NJ. Regular gas was $2.82. Where I live, diesel is going betwen $3.99 and $4.29 a gallon - self service. In NJ you can't pump your own gas or diesel if the pump shares a pump island with gasoline pumps. I pump my own at a truck stop. The New York prices are for self service.

3.29 for diesel in Jersey?...WOW...Im in north Florida and it is 3.48 here...that is pathetic for a state that has no state tax....except for the tax they put on fuel!...IMO, people need to start raising cane with their state legislatures to lower fuel taxes.

There are only seven states that don't: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas , Washington, and Wyoming.

You are being sarcastic, right?

Texas has 6.25% general sales tax. Cities add 2% to make the average 8.25%

Look at the link I posted earlier to see the state tax of fuel. Texas has been consistent for as long as I have been paying attention.

Only 2 things in life are CERTAIN.......

I hope you are kidding. Demand for all fuel is higher seeing as the country is growing.
