I picked up a used Motorcraft delay wiper setup for my 77 F150 that originally came with just High-Low wipers. The wiring that hooks to these switches has two connectors that plug into the switch, one larger 5 contact connector and a smaller 2 contact connector. My question is about the smaller 2 contact connection, my original switch had 2 spade connections for this small connector to plug into, but my new delay switch only has 1 connection. I'm thinking that the missing spade connection is not needed for the delay setup, but I just wanted to check with you folks to make sure. Thanks. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
its easy, just remove the wire from the old switch, swap the delay switch in plug the box in, connect the ground wire, the extra one. and connect to the wire to the motor. and then rainy days are much better.
First, as Mil1ion has said before, we shouldn't assume anything, and figure out what switch you have.
But, I recently added a delay wiper switch from a late model truck (Part # is an 80+ part #), you will have to swap the spade connector on the late model connector. Basically, one of the two wires on that connector goes to the washer pump, and the other wire provides the hot to the washer pump switch. The later model switch gets the "hot" from the 5 prong connector. Hard to describe in a quick reply, but get the part # and somebody here will be able to help you out!
The Wiper Delay switch I picked up has the Motorcraft p/n: EOTF-17C476-AA, and it also has 3Z3 260 3M22 printed above the p/n. I have posted a link to picture that compares the two switches side-by-side to illustrate what I'm talking about. The left connector with the shiny brass and copper terminals is the original non-delay Ford switch I'm replacing (Stood on end) and the connector on the right is for the delay switch. Note that the terminal at the 6 O'Clock position on the non-delay switch is not present on the delay switch. There is a hole in the delay switch at this position if I need to add one if necessary.
BTW the terminals on my original switch can't be transferred to the new switch because they are an integral part of the original switch. They are actually "L" shaped ternials that are riveted in place on the switch.
I got mine out of a 85 F150, switch and black box for my 77.5 F250. The 77 loom has to plugs, one with a few wires and one with just 2 wires. The larger (more wires) plugs in only one way, I put the 2 wire plug in as it fits and no squiter pump, but the small 2 wire plug will plug in backwards? and all works good, so I didn't have to move any wires just plug the smaller one in backwards. The best 3 dollar thing I have ever did for my truck. About a year later I found a 77 with the switch and black box, also for 3 bucks. Well I guess I will be changing it out cause the 85 is longer on the shaft and found out that Jeep (AMC) also out-sorced a lot of the parts on the CJs and if you have the 4 wire motor (Ford part) on your CJ this switch will also work with it plug and play, So it looks like my CJ7 will also be getting delayed wipers also.
Cujo, you have this one which is the same as the one I posted above.
Now you need the special switch to make it all happen.
The one in your picture has 7 terminals and mine has only 6 terminals. My original wiper switch had seven like the one you posted, but the new delay switch has only 6 terminals. What is this "Special Switch" you are talking about?
