ww vs stock, what to expect?

my turbo has started a liitle whine when it ispooling dow.. i have ordered the rebuild kit from e-bay BANKS 99/03 7.3 POWERSTROKE TURBO TURBOCHARGER REBUILD and feel i got a decent price. but in the last three days i have read more and seen more about turbos the i ever would have expected. so, to recap, very little bonus comes from the ww?i mean, is surge a major performance issue?

Surge is a turbo destroying issue. It puts very heavy stress on it which leads to premature bearing failure. If you're getting surge, it's the cheapest way to reduce/eliminate it. It actually reduces boost some -- mine dropped from 28 to 25-26 psi max.

Since you are going to rebuild and if you have the funds keep stock compressor wheel and change housing to ATS.

the ww does not ellimnate surge it only moves the rpm that it happens a little higher. a bigger hotside housing or a ported compressor "cold side" housing like the ATS will elliminate surge. plus unless you like the whistle the ww will get on your nerves on long hauls.

Personally, I like the screaming turbo. I don't tow heavy for long distances, though. If I have to, I'll probably invest in the AIS to quiet it down a bit. Not for me as much as the rest of the fam.

lol... A turbo is coming. I think I've convinced myself to get a set of mid-range SS injectors first, then a BB turbo. I would love to hear the H2E though -- one of these days I'm sure I'll get the chance.

Foil delete came standard. That's 2 things. Having an early '99 can be a hassle. Everytime I check out a performance goody I would like to have it will say 99 POINT 5 to 2003 or not available for early 99. Its been saving me money though.

Both trucks i've rode in with a stock h2e were ridiculously quiet, even at 20+ psi. I compared it to a stock turbo as far as the noise. I thought they were screamers, but no, they werent.
